Would need more info to tell. You don't say if it is male/female, neutered/entire, how old, or anything.
A distended abdomen could mean lots of things, many of them nasty, so I would get the dog straight to a vet. If it's a female, could she be pregnant? Or is she an older, unspayed female, in which case it could be a pyometra, a really nasty infection of the uterus. That's actually fairly common, particularly in older, unspayed females, even more so if she has never had pups.
Please, do yourself and your dog a favour, and go to the vet.

Take the puppy to the vet. A dissended abdomen is a sypmtom of a problem, a problem of which only a vet can diagnose. I have a dauchound as well and she is the love of my life!

I would recommend you contact your local animal emergency clinic. They may suggest you bring your dog in to be checked. This can be something easy like eating too much or something very serious like bloat (twisting of the belly). Generally bloat happens in large breed dogs, but I have seen a s dachshund bloat before. Call the vet.

A distended abdomen is simply swollen. It is a symptom rather than an actual disease. It can be a sign of a large number of diseases, most of them very serious. You should take the puppy in to a vet as soon as possible.

It could mean anything from intestinal parasites to pregnancy to bloat. If your dog is painful, he needs to see a vet ASAP as bloat is nothing to mess with. If your dog is a female and not altered, pregnancy is a possibility. If he's a puppy, this could be worms, in which case a vet visit will take care of it
Has your dog gotten into something that you are aware of? (i.e. garbage, food bag, toxins etc.)

take him to the emergency immediately. He could be bleeding internally. My dog had the same symptoms and it turns out she has cancer. Her spleen had ruptured and was bleeding out. I don't want to scare you but if I had not noticed her abdomen as soon as I did she would not be around today.

Take it to the vet. It may have a blocked bowel, which is serious.
