They make the comparison because they feel it gives them a legitimate excuse to breed. No, it cannot be compared. While it is true that dogs did once breed in the wild, their life expectancy then was much shorter than now. When we domesticated them, the "rules" changed and with the decision to domesticate came a great deal of responsibility. This is the new age where no one wants to take responsibility and no one wants to be held accountable for their actions. It is the same with everything these days. I always remind people that back in the bad old days when the infant mortality rate was so very high, as well as the mortality rate of a woman giving birth, things were far more natural. We are supposed to have learned better. The comparison does not work. An animal born in the wild has an entirely different set of circumstances. We are supposed to have common sense and understand this, but in this instant gratification society, the only thing that seems to matter is "I want."

They originally evolved from wolves. Over the centuries breeders were able to breed the different dogs we see today. Ask your Biology teacher if this makes no sense

Wolves dude! The first dogs were evolved from some of the lowest members in the pack who felt that there wasn't enough food for them. So they moved in with the easiest food source, humans.

All modern domesticated dogs descended from wolves. When a genetic abbe ration popped up, humans would breed selectively to cultivate that aberration, & those dogs eventually became the dogs we know (& love!) today.

DNA research reveal all dogs are descendants of wild wolves. The breeds still retaining the most wolf genes are the Chinese Sharpai, Malamute, Rotweiller, and Dobermans. It doesn't mean they won't make good pets, it means they are most likely to revert to natural instinctive behavior when under stress or confused.
