i work at a dog ranch doing kennel work / watching about 15 different dogs and taking them out into the yards for playtime. my pomeranian dog at home has smelled my clothes/jackets and puts his ears back as he sniffs curiously. i have no other dogs, just him. well on saturday he started throwing up, then sunday was followed by diarreah and bloody liver like stools. i know stress colitis is one thing my vet is considering, she asked if we brought a new dog into the home or if he could be stressed by anything and we said no. then i thought about how he sniffed me after my work at the dog ranch. does anyone know if something as simple as that can cause stress colitis or any kind of colitis in a dog, if he is the only dog in the household. we got him from a lady who had another dog in the family , but for the last year he's been the only dog. my boyfriend fed him a tiny piece of chinese sweet and sour pork without the fried part just the pork,so i thought thats what caused it. any know?

I'd suspect that you brought something home on your clothes and accidentally gave it to your dog before I'd suspect stress colitis. Any one of the dogs you work with could be carrying a bug, whether or not they are showing any symptoms themselves.

It's probably nothing serious, as long as the Pom has been properly vaccinated -- just a gastrointestinal virus, or something. Doubt it was the pork, if it was just a small piece.

If you're asking whether the smells of the other dogs stressed your Pom out, I really really doubt it.

Good luck!

That would scare me. I would get a 2nd opinion. My dog sniffs other animals on me when I return from a visit but she has never been upset. I do know that if we give her something to eat that she's not used to she often will get intestinal probs. Try giving you dog a bland diet of boiled rice and chicken for a few days and see if it helps. But, take it to another vet. to be safe. Good luck.

Some dogs have easily upset stomachs and can't tolerate any change in their diet - especially exotic people food. My last dog would vomit & get the runs any time someone gave her scraps - I was always having to warn people not to give her people food. They thought I was mean, but they weren't the ones who had to watch her suffer later.

Has the vet tested your dog for parvo, just to be safe?

Do you have a stressed life? If so calm down a half a hour a day so you can get everything done at once so you can relax yourself. And for your dog.If you have troble with that stick it in a crate for 1-2 hours a day and see what happens.
