Pugs are small (they are in the Toy group) and are generally happy in small spaces (they still do need to be walked like any other dog). They are extremely good natured, great with kids, don't bark/yap too much, and don't need haircuts. They have a sense of humor and like to be silly. Pugs love people to death and will be your best friend.

Having a pug really is like having a big dog in a small package. You don't get that with any other small dog.

Make sure though if you get a pug, check for health issues right away such as luxating patella (knee problem). Also when they get spayed/neutered, have them do the surgery for elongated palate (simple surgery that is not too expensive) to avoid breathing issues later on.

Every breed has health issues that are prevalent among that particular breed. It's better to find/fix these things early. Also like someone else said, research the traits of the breeds you are interested in beforehand.

In a nutshell, pugs are excellent with children, small size, short hair, less barking, etc. Now that I've had one I will never be happy with any other breed!

A small dog either a "non-working" breed or a hound. I would avoid a terrier just because they tend to be higher energy and that can be problematic in an apartment. I have 2 dachshunds (1 male 1 female) in my 920sq ft apartment and they both do fine as long as I am sure to get out and take them for walks. Exercise is important for any dog and since you will lack a fenced in yard walks or trips to a dog park will be important. Look into adopting from a shelter/rescue. The dogs are a bit older and the rescues in particular will be able to help you select a dog that will be best suited to your space and lifestyle.

I would think if your a little unsure as to what type of dog you would want, I would look into your local rescue dog shelters. My husband and I were "foster parents" to a beagle dog for about 4 months. In that time we were able to see how she did around our other beagle and her surroundings. Needless to say, I fell in love with her, and as of this December she was a member of our family.
Being a foster parent to a dog is an easy way to get accquainted with different types of breeds without having to make a decision right away. Plus if things just don't work out, you are not obligated to that particular dog. Just a thought...I personally love our 2 beagle dogs and they aren't a problem with small areas.

You can't go wrong if you adopt a small mixed-breed tailwagger from your local animal shelter or rescue group. You'll get a healthy, happy, medically sound dog that's perfect for an apartment or a house. Genetic problems are almost unheard of in mixed-breed dogs, unlike purebreds. A rescue/shelter pooch will shower you with gratitude and affection for giving it a better life and making it a part of your "pack." AND you'll be saving a life!
Best of luck with your decision!

Believe it or not the Great Dane is perfect for apartment dwellers.

They are very sedentary and do not like alot of excercise.
I know it sounds crazy, but while watching the national dog show the announcer stated this fact while the great danes were showing.

Google the breed. You'll see.

Even little dogs will have more of a physical need for exercise than great danes.

if you like small dogs then most of them are OK.
i have a medium size dog and he is happy but i do have to take him out at least 4 x a day.
you should get a calm dog because of the barking and the people all about the place.
hey you know what i think the girl who wrote great danes are good for apts. might be right

If you arent into small dogs, oddly enough great danes are really good apartment dogs. They arent over active..i mean you still have to play with them.. but they dont usually chew, they are really smart and very caring. The only problem is that they are really expensive to take care off because they eat a ton. They also have bad allergies so they are not supposed to be outside dogs. But they kennel train very easily and are very friendly.

Look for a breed that suits your lifestyle first of all. Then look into behavior issues with certain types of breeds. All dogs need exercise so if you aren't willing to take the time, get a cat

Depends on the breed. I know some small breeds that bouce off the walls with so much energy and I also know large breeds that are literally couch potatos. Depends on how much time you can devote to the dog for walks and playing.

I say a shiatsu because they are cute and small. They love you to death. They dont make much noise. They are not hard to take out to go to the bathroom cause you would live in an apartment.
