It seems everytime I go to read a question almost all the answers have more thumbs downs then up...even though they are good answers. Are there people just going around and doing it just to be rude or what?? I can understand it when the answers are actually bad or mean, but how come when someone is just giving their opinion? I thought that was what this website was for.

I know it's in the wrong catagory but this is where I see it the most.

My 5 month old Pit puppy got a "severe" scratch by his tail and the flesh of it can be seen. I don't know if I should put ointment or something, or maybe alcohol so that it will not get infected. I was going to take him to the vet but they're open until monday. Any ideas on how or what to put my puppy on his injured area will be much appreciated.

I want to get a puppy but since my place isn't too big I was wondering what dogs there are that don't get too big? And I don't like those little dogs like chihuahas, terriers, etc I guess not the 'prissy' type of dogs that are REALLY small but maybe full grown would be medium sized? Hard to explain but any names would be helpful, thanks

I have worked for the county welfare for over 20 years. I help handicapped people just getting ready to go back home to get ready and have the things they need lined up for them. One of those things in a number of cases are service dogs. In the past 5 years I have placed over 200 service dogs in handicapped persons homes. I can tell you about 25% of them have been pit bulls and pit mix. Not one time have one of these dogs ever turned or attacked someone unproved. In 5 cases these brave dogs have given up their lifes for there masters. One from a fire he help get the woman who owned her out of her burning house. She was so badly she had to be put down. One was shot during a home invasion, one a car jacking, the other two died protecting thier owners in hold-ups were they worked. Pit are the smartest of all the breeds for this kind of work and as you can tell loyal to the point of death. Using pit for this is comman and have been for over 5 years.

When ever talking or petting or just being with our golden he always looks us in the eye as though he is having a conversation with us, I was told that it is a sign of dominance. He is five months old and has been trained easily and is quite intelligent and loveable but is that a sign of trouble in the future?

All the people from the USA mention crates with dogs, what are they ?

2007-02-10 15:45:41 · 16 answers · asked by Anonymous

I have a dog and he is two years old. I have an absolutely terrible problem though with him and a crate. I have adopted him a couple months ago from a young lady. The dog is absolutely terrified of the crate. As soon as I put him in he scratches at the door, cries loudly, barks, yelps, and digs furiously at the bottom of the cage floor. I feel terrible that I have to put him in there, but its the only way that he can stay safe when we are busy or gone from the house. I don't know if he was treated badly in it when he was younger or just never introduced to it. Are there any training methods or websites I can go to, to help him easily take to the crate and not look at it as a prison? I know they say a crate is like a den to a dog, but he acts like its a refinery or something. We have another dog and she stays in that crate so well. She just sits there and acts as if it is just her second home. Anyways any advice or suggestions I really need some help....thank you for any suggestions!

I have a 12 yr old Min Pin and have had her since she was 3 months old. About a year and a half ago she started urinating at night while we were sleeping. Soon after she starting doing this (every night) I purchased a crate and placed her in it only during the time that I was sleeping. She started urinating in the crate. I took her water dish away during the night, thinking this would help to eliminating her need to urinate, only to have her wake me up barking because she was thirsty. In the past she has never been a big drinker and she has had accidents here and there, but never this consistently. I took her to the vet and had urinalysis and a blood test and the test were neg for anything that would have contributed to this behavior. The vet was not sure what was wrong with her and gave me a supplement to give her twice a day, which didn't help. There has been no change in her routine, no new pets or disturbances and I let her outside between 5-6 times a day. Please help!
