The time will vary from dog to dog. It will also depend on her age or the number of litters she has had. It she is through having puppies (you didn't mention a breed, so don't know how may pups to expect). If she is a first time mom, or too young (under 2 years of age) it is always unpredictable.
If the mom is not in any noticeable distress, if she isn't pushing and trying to expel a puppy, be concerned but don't panic.
Dogs can safely go as much as 6 hours between puppies, although 30 min to 1 hour is more the normal span of time between each puppy birth.
If she isn't having contractions and no puppy arrives after 12 to 14 hours, take her and the babies to the vet for a check. It is possible she has retained some of the after birth.
Usually after the pups start nursing it stimulates the mom to pass any retained after birth.

A dog that my family had long ago had a litter of puppies. All were born within a few hours or so we thought. One puppy was born 12 hours later. Crazy small, but alive.

Your momma dog may (like you said) be taking a break. The time varies between puppies. I wouldn't worry too much yet. If you are concerned though, call a vet.

it can take up to 24 hours from the time she starts delivering. As long as she doesn't show signs of distress. If she seems to be struggling too much take her to a vet. it may just be a small litter. Just make sure the baby's dint come out backwards.they can get stuck and rip the sack and suffocate. if this happens you may want to help her.carefully!

I heard some place no more than about 20 minutes, but I may be wrong. Just make sure that you take her to the vet before 24hr. that way the vet can check to make sure there are no placentas or puppies left inside her.

It would have been smart to find this out before you let your ***** get pregnant. If she isn't showing signs of distress, let her rest. Just don't let her go more than an hour. If you reach an hour you need to call your vet. Please have her spayed after this. Why risk your dogs life with your ignorance.

call the humane society , they will give you the number to a local vet or club that does Spay/nuetering for free in your area. yeah, spay/nueter is that important that people volunteer time and money to help people have their dogs fixed for free.
