When ever talking or petting or just being with our golden he always looks us in the eye as though he is having a conversation with us, I was told that it is a sign of dominance. He is five months old and has been trained easily and is quite intelligent and loveable but is that a sign of trouble in the future?

I do not think that it is a sign of dominance (especially if he is not showing any other aggressive behaviors), it just means that your dog is paying attention and wanting to please you.

It depends . . . it can be a sign of dominance - but there's a difference between eye contact with you and a dominant stare. Who blinks first? Who turns away? Does he have any other dominance issues? Are you an experienced dog handler or novice? Goldens can be dominant but are generally easy going guys and gals. Unless he's doing something else - like demanding food, being aggressive with food or toys, not letting you sit on the couch if he wants to sit there, not getting off your bed if you let him sleep with you, etc. then he's probably fine. Teach basic obedience and make sure you are top dog and even if it is a bit of dominance he'll come around. Good boy!

Not a sign of dominance at all. it is a sign of trust though, I have lived with many dogs and many would never look you in the eye because of previous owners mistreatment, etc. also with breeds like yours, they have an insatiable desire to make you happy and if you are training him, he has realized that following commands makes you happy, so he is looking for ways to please you

That isn't bad at all. When you train them as puppies your suppose to have them always make eye contact. I wouldn't worry about it.

That's not a bad thing. He's trying to read your emotions so he knows how to react.
