Dogs fur can turn white due to extreme stress. I have seen rotties turn completely white before due to being in a stressful environment continuously. I would take him to the vet to rule out any physical illness. If everything is clear, start trying to figure out what is stressing your dog so much. Do you have another male dog in the house with him who is being dominant? This is what caused the other rottie i saw to turn white.

I would call a vet and get him checked. It is better to be safe than sorry. His hair should not be changing colors if not exposed to any trauma. If you are unsure of what the male parent is, some of his genetic makeup may be showing through. I doubt it though since he is already an adult. It could be the genes, but there is no telling. Has any routines in your home changed, or has something drastically changed with your life because it could be from stress. We all stress in different ways. Check his skin and if it seems different, (ie: flaking, smells funky, crusty feel...) it could be some sort of dermatitis. Better call the vet! Good luck!

He is just changing colors. Look at the skin under the white spots it should be lighter. My red and white cocker spaniel looks completely different from when i first got him with red spots everywhere. I wouldn't worry about it. It just means he is not pure breed

as you said, dad is of unknown breed so it is most likely that now that your dog is reaching adult-hood, he's growing into the "coat" coloring that is normal for him. two of the dogs I have had did not get spots until maturity. still, do check with a vet to make sure it's health is good.
