I have 2 Great Danes. My older one, has recently developed a skin disorder - itching and rash like spots losing all her fur on one side of her body. I feel terrible for her and have tried EVERYTHING for the past 7 months........steroid shots, hot spot medicines, holistic cures, vitamins, salmon oil etc........... I have read that skin problems are common in Great Danes, but the vets seem to be reciting what seems to be something THEY READ so I really want to find a vet who will help me figure this out. I have looked online searching everything I could think of but nothing comes up.............if anyone can help i would appreciate it. :)

I feed "Chicken soup for the dog lovers soul"
Its a good quality food and the dogs have WAY less allergy problems since we switched to this food.

My neighbor is the owner of the dogs. She thought she was too young to go into heat.Shes getting fixed after the pups.
The mother looks like a tiny german shepard {5 lbs} I want a big name . If I get a boy I am thinking Hercules .
They aren't born yet so I don't know if I will get a male or female. I want both male and female names, Thanks.

Hi were looking to get a basset hound puppy but have one concern. Would it be ok if left alone for a period of time? I'm a teacher and out all day apart from the holidays. My boyfriend is able to take the dog to work but there will be accassions where this is not possible (for example if he is working in a hospital). Would we be suitable for the dog?

We have a new puppy. She's a beagle and shes adorable, weve tryed severl names with none we seam to like Hunny, Sable, etc. my husband has resorted to calling her Rumplestilskin till we find a name. I dont want her to be Rumple...lol HELP!

I have to wipe eye boogers off my dog everyday about 2 or 3 times. His eyes don't seem to bother him but i was still curious, if there was something i could do. Or if its a sign for something.

Other than the breed of your current dog(s) (if you have a dog) .. What breed do you love? What is a breed you love, but would never have, because of size, maintenance, etc.?

I have a Bichon and a Chocolate Lab..I love Pointers and Standard Poodles but they are a bit too high strung for me!

My dog goes out twice a day and is let out again before i go to work and again before i go to bed but she keeps having a little pee in the same place whilst im asleep. Any ideas on why she might be doing this. Its not as if she isnt having a wee when i walk her she goes at least 3 times. i am feeding her on a mix of dried and wet food and she always has a fresh bowl of water with it.

Any ideas on how to stop her doing this ?? I heard pepper deters them or is that just for cats ?? HELP !

Hi,
I have a Maltese (male) a yr and a half now, and I just bought a Yorkie (female) that is 14 weeks old over the weekend. My main purpose for that is to keep my maltese company. Well, on the first day, they run around and play together. However, after the first day till now, my maltese seems lose interests on the yorkie. He won't play w/ her, sometimes she even goes to him, or bit him for his attentions. Are they not getting along fine?
Is my maltese hate his new friend? sometimes i can tell my maltese is getting jealous when I holding the yorkie.
I don't know what to do now, is the yorkie way too aggressive for maltese? she never stops.
Pls help if you have a similar situation. Thanks.

OK my roommate called me at work at 6:00AM today and
said you better get home right away because I think Jimmy
is dying. (Jimmy is was my chihauhau) When I got home withen 30 min. she had already died. So what do you think should I go to the pound and get another one right away or wait.Or is it to soon. Thanks for your answers.

When I watch a dog show, all the Pekes have extremely thick flowing hair - or fur. Our Pekingese has short hair around her ears and only moderate length fur on the rest of her body...her tail is very thick and bushy. But I was wondering because I have never heard of any breed variations. Does anyone know about this?

My GSD puppy (female) is 4 months and a week now, 42 lb., ears erected, very beautiful, black & tan. I brought her to city off-leash park 4 times. I found she got some progress when social with other dogs and people. She likes people, eager to kiss people when got praised and friendly tapping. But she was very shy and seems no interesting play with other dog approching her. Most of time, her ears turn flat back and run away from those dogs. Ocassionaly, nose to nose with other dogs. Even some very small dog can aggressively chasing her. I felt very sad. Could be her temperation problem? I was guilty that I hit her once when she was about ten week old. Not sure that cause her so. In the home, she is very friendly with my kids. She can understand sit, lie,come,stay and in the middle of Heel training, she walks a little bit forward. In feeding time, when I put food and water there, she looks at me and does not eat until I say OK. Pretty nice except this shy. Please help me for next step.

Everything seemed normal but now her private area is swollen quite a bit, is this normal, its looks about triple the normal size it was before she went into heat. (sorry for being graphic)..can someone tell me if this is part of her being in heat. Also, before you all tell me to get her spayed, she was suppose to go this week but went into heat Friday, when she is finished I am getting her spayed...I just want to know if this is normal. Please only serious comments..thanks alot!

She is an older dog and is getting over a cold. Now there are red lines from her eyes. What can I do about it? How do I clean it off her face? Our regular vet has gone on vacation for 2 weeks and dont care for the fill in.
