This is completely normal. Depending on the breed of dog and type of food he is consuming. If you have food readily available at all times stop. A dog does not need food available all day everyday. Now that he is fixed he will be a lot lazier (like most men). Also if he is mainly an inside dog you could try talking him for walks more often. There are also some foods (though more expensive) that can help with the weight loss. Other then Science Diet I'm not exactly certain which other brands.

To be honest- all animals tend to get a little chubby after they've been fixed. Its happened to the dogs I have had in the past. An extra pound or two won't hurt. But then again its dependent on the breed. Try feeding your dog a light version of whatever dog food he's eating now.
Playing with him a little more will help with the exercise (but don't overdo it!!) You can also confirm with your vet if the weight gain is a problem.

Neutering had nothing to do with him getting fat..too many calories did that. Get him on a good quality food with no corn, wheat, soy or beet pulp.Feed him less calories and less treats. Make sure he gets proper exercise.

If he is getting really fat, ask your vet. There are some really good prescription dog foods that will allow him to lose some weight. He doesn't prepare his own meals though, so it is on you if he is getting pudgy. Less food, more exercise! Great combo.

Dogs get fat from overeating and no exercise.
20 minutes a day you walk him, and just feed him less or get that food for overweight dogs from IAMs or Purina.
