do they make good pets? are they friendly? i am thinking about getting a new and am still in the process of researching different breeds and advice will be appreciated.

I have a 3 year old boxer. They make great family pets. But they need lots of attention. They love to play, play and play with you or anybody in the family. Yes, They make a great pet. My boxer loves to chase after the laser light, Does not like to chase after the tennis ball, She likes to go for walks on a daily basis - but if it rains she would rather chase after the lazer light.
They are very good with kid's and can be well trained, but you got to put the effort into training the boxer. They are not just automatically trained. I use to never want a Boxer but now i'm glad that I have one. This is my first boxer (fawn) and now i'm glad that I have one.
It would be good if someone is home with the boxer during the week. The dog hates to be home by itself. If your family is the type to be gone all the time (both parents at work all the time) this is not the Dog for you. This dog breed always wants someone around. This dog is a people person.
I've never heard of a Boxer having a bad reputation or being known to be like a pitbull. If it were to be like a pitbull we would have never gotten one. Boxer's are more like BullDog's if anything since they are in the same family. Boxer's are Nothing related to pitbull's.

I had a Male boxer 5 years ago. He needed tons of attention, which is fine, most animals do. My friend also had a boxer, we both had problems with seperation anxiety and with them being spiteful if they didnt recieve enough attention. I owned my boxer with my boyfriend at the time so it was just the two of us. we trained him very well. He seemed to bond more with myself - ive heard that boxers sometimes choose one person out of the family to be closer to....not sure if thats always true but in my case it was. dont believe the problems I had were because of improper training or any neglect.
I would recommend another breed for a family dog - many of my friends, and customers have labs, which are fabulous family pets, they have a great great personality and get along with every member equally. they are very loving and playful but also seem to be content just relaxing. whatever breed you decide to go with, i would definitely recommend you go through a breeder instead of a pet store.

I've had three boxers and have never had a aggressive one,I've had all females and had them spayed.They are high energy,loyal,and loving. It's all in how you raise them if they become mean,it not the breed,you can make any dog mean and bite! Boxers are a really popular breed to have in my area a lot of my friends have them and wouldn't be without one or two,they have raised there kids around them. Find a good breeder who is breeding for the breed not the money the puppy brings!!!

I think you are being very smart by doing your research on different breeds. Different breeds have different requirements and suit different lifestyles. A dog is a long term commitment that's for sure...
Good luck with your research...with that being said:
I think boxers are wonderful dogs. They are great family pets as long as they come from a good breeder (or a good rescue!) and are trained and well taken care of.

Boxers r a great pet. any breed of dog can be a family pet. it just depends on how the animal was brought up. just like people dogs with good up bringing r usually great with family life hope this helps

Boxers are Very Frendly Dogs!! They are a GREAT Breed!! i Have a boxer her name is Kenya shes almost 1 year old!! She is Great with Kids! But... If The dog does somthing bad you have to hit it Because They are VERY strong dogs and they Can take it!!

Many boxers have a very bad reputation, but I have seen certain specimines make great pets. I think it depends on many factors, one of which being the age you aquire them. I think that the dogs are, by nature, more inclined to be viscious than, say, a maltese. But I think if you get them young enough and socialize the dog properly, it shouldn't have any problems. I know a person who breeds boxers, and she has had very few problems with them.

if they are raised and traind properly they make wonderful pets. most that i have met can pretty much be called a big lap dog. the others were still quite friendly but tended to be a little avoident of strangers.

A boxer is a lot like a pitbull. Some are great and others not so great. This is very dog dependent.
