Everything seemed normal but now her private area is swollen quite a bit, is this normal, its looks about triple the normal size it was before she went into heat. (sorry for being graphic)..can someone tell me if this is part of her being in heat. Also, before you all tell me to get her spayed, she was suppose to go this week but went into heat Friday, when she is finished I am getting her spayed...I just want to know if this is normal. Please only serious comments..thanks alot!

Yes swelling around the vaginal area is normal on a dog in heat. Primarily it depends on the breed of the dog but quite often it can get at least double if not triple the size. Don't be sorry for details because without details you can't get detailed answers. Just make sure she doesn't go outside alone until she is out of heat because some male dogs will jump fences even to get to a female in heat. Once they begin you can't do anything to stop it and most generally it only takes one mating occurrence for the dog to become pregnant.

Yes this is perfectly normal for her to swell alot. As long as there is nothing really fowl smelling or gross looking she should be alright. She will be in season for approximatly 3-4 weeks. Be sure to keep her away from other dogs until she is spayed even if you think she may be done . Good Luck.

Yes it is normal for the female parts to swell while in heat!! No need to worry it will return to normal soon!!

Good Luck and keep an eye on her other dogs will be knocking at your door very soon!!! Dogs can smell a female in heat up to 3 miles away!!! Do not let her outside by herself dogs can even mate through a chainlink fence!!!

Thank you for making the appiontment to get her fixed!! That is very resposible of you!!

This is perfectly normal. I have heard of dogs going into heat days before spaying lots of times. Good for you for being a responsible dog owner!!!

A few days to a week. My best advice is to get her spayed. This will control her hormones and make her much calmer during her heat. This will also help prevent an unwanted large litter of puppies. Help control the pet population! Spaying is a routine procedure that is generally very reasonably priced.

It is normal. She also may bleed, so don't be alarmed when that happens. Just try to keep her in the house, dogs will come from miles to get her. Good decision to get her spayed, every time she goes into heat her chances of getting breast cancer go up enormously.

yes the swelling is normal. It can last for up to three weeks depending on her breed. Do some research or just wait a couple weeks. Keep her in your sight whenever she may be around another dog.

hi,
This is very normal, in fact this is a quick way that you can tell when she's in heat, besides finding little red marks on your floor. My dog Tanner(husky) she is big in size ,when she went in heat for the first time she didn't keep herself clean good enough so I put her in diapers lol. But, to answer your ? yes that is very normal.
