They aren't as 'gogogogogogottafindabitshasfastasican!!!' they have the same energy to go on walks, but they don't need to get a female, which takes up alot of their time otherwise.

No - spaying/neutering doesn't make a dog fat and lazy -- but in my experience with 2 b*tches spayed well after adult-hood and post Championship it did decrease the amount of food that is required to keep them in optimum condition (one b*tch went from 2 cups of kibble a day down to 2/3 of a cup of kibble). In Samoyeds it also softens and doubles the length of coat. It also did drastically change the drive to lead my sled team for one of them - the other didn't have any temperament changes. I'm not anti-spay/neuter ... the average sofa surfer owned by the average idiot who can't make sure the reproductive organs aren't used willy nilly should be spay/neutered (and I include that for both species!). Either way - while you can enlighten and remove ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

No, neutering does not make them lazier or fatter. excess calories cause the weight gain. Dogs may seem lazier after because they no longer are hormone driven to seek mates and defend territory, but that's it..

After a while it calms the dog down a little bit but they are still playful and act like normal puppies and it does not make them fatter.

Nope, it has nothing to do with being neutered, it has to do with owners not taking their dogs out for enough exercise or over feeding (the same reason people get fat). I can tell you i have three neutered dogs right now and not one of them is fat or lazy.

Often that can happen. The site bellow lists many of the issues involving spaying a neutering and the effects.

Um.. dogs get fatter when they dont excercise, its the owners responsibility to provide activity his/her pet.

As for laziness.... depends on your definition. They get calmer in my opinion. But if you dont provide a fun environment for them then balls or no balls, they will be lazy.

Animals who are not walked, played with and given the proper diet get fat and lazy. Kinda like people unless there is an illness.

I've had a dog neutered before, and he stayed exactly the same as he was before he was neutered.

they do both, they tend to eat more and they dont wander away from home looking for a mate. so they laze around and sleep more than usual. hope this helps cat lover for 40 years
