She is an older dog and is getting over a cold. Now there are red lines from her eyes. What can I do about it? How do I clean it off her face? Our regular vet has gone on vacation for 2 weeks and dont care for the fill in.
Thank you

She is a border collie/australian shepherd mix. Her eyes have never done this. She has finished her antibiotics from what our regular vet diagnosed as a respiratory affection, he said it basically is the same as a cold

Some one else said dogs don't get colds well they are wrong and it is normally called Kennel cough but that is besides the point. Her red lines can be removed by gently a few times a day put peroxide in a cotton ball and wipe away from the eyes and sort of down the side of the muzzle and this will help the tear stains. Check up with your vet as soon as possible and don't hesitate to take her in if something gets worse . Good Luck.

Runny eyes are not a good sign. If they are still runny go to the vet, even if you don't like the fill-in. If it's just stains on the face, wet a cloth with warm water and a very very cleanser and gently wipe below the eyes.

um,,, dogs do not get colds like humans,,,,, did your dog have some sort of respiratory infection... what kind of breed do you have,, some dogs are prone to tear stains,,,,,, poodles, maltese etc.. pet supply stores carry items for wiping the tear stains... you could also stop in at the groomers and they will tell you how to deal with tear stains
KENNEL COUGH IS NOT A COLD - dogs can receive immunizations for this ailment from the vet ,, so no colds for dogs...

It doesn't sound like it is an urgent matter. You can go ahead and set up an appointment to see the vet when the vet gets back from vacation.

It is the drainage from her eyes causing this. I can't think of it but there are products at your local pet store to clean the stains from dogs eyes. I groomed alot of Schnauzer's and Poodles with the same type of problems and their eyes always look so terrible when they stain like that. Soap just makes their eyes irritated.

Goto the vet, get a check up, if it's something they'll give the dog some drops.

most likely it's nothing.
