I am so sorry about your dog Jimmy. Why do you think she died? I am one of those people who has to fill the void left by a pet who died immediately. I never expect the new pet to be like the one that had passed on, and it isn't that I don't miss the one that died, it just helps me deal with the loss. My family doesn't get it all, but it feels right for me. So you go and do what you think is right for you. If that means going to the pound and saving a life, good for you. Jimmy wouldn't want you to be without a dog buddy, especially since you will be saving a dog's life

First of all, what killed Jimmy? Was she sick or old or run over by a bus? It is totally a personal choice how soon to replace a pet. Not that they can be replaced, but to get another pet. Be careful getting the same kind of dog. It will NOT be Jimmy and some people expect too much from the new dog.

Back to the original question...if Jimmy was sick, make sure your new friend can't catch anything from her. I am very sorry for your loss.

I agree ... it would be better to know why Jimmy died. If it was a disease, you would need to clean - disinfect - your home before you bring another pet in.

Old age, an accident, those don't need deep cleaning.

You sound like a person who is happiest when you have a pet ... so go ahead and get a new one. The animals at the pound are waiting for someone like you to take them home.

I am sorry about Jimmy.

im so sorry for your loss. i couldnt replace my zues when he died. but if it helps do. However i would be careful choosing a dog from the pound be sure its not been mistreated and find out where it came from did its owners give it away cause it was dangerous or just couldnt look after it. I got a dog from the pound once and it was pschologically disturbed it bit someone and we were ordered to put it down it nearly killed me cause im an animal lover and we never had a psycho dog before. good luck

Wait because you want to be sure you get the right dog. Wait for the wound to heal from the loss of your dog first.

There is no correct or best answer as to how soon is too soon. Often a new dog will ease the pain of loss, and adopting a dog that needs you from a shelter or pound is a way to honor your lost loved one..
I am so sorry for your loss..

That my friend is all up to you! I personally would need time to morn the loss of my family member. I lost my beautiful male Rotty at the age of 15 2 years ago and we are just now talking about getting another dog. It is all up to you what you do.
