My Vet wants to keep my pup over night when he is neutered. I know they like to keep the females because their spaying is more serious. But I have never heard of keeping a male. I told them I would pick my dog up the same day. I will not leave him over night. When I asked why they insist on keeping the males they said the dog just rests better and doesn't run around as they might at home. All my dog would do is cry all night...I won't leave him.

My family has a dog but we got it when it was full grown..now I live by myself and I'm about to get a puppy from a shelter. Therefore, I know some basics but not as much for the younger dogs. Can someone please help me with:

-What shots, medicine I should give it and how do I know what age..I dont think the dog has anything
-What kind of food to feed it and what age...the dog is 6 weeks so can I give it hard food, etc
-How often should you wash it
-How to teach it things like sit, stay, and a way for them not to chew up everything

things like that...anything would help, thanks!

I was just wondering some general things I should look for..I'm going to get a puppy tomorrow but there are 4 siblings and I want to make sure I pick the best one since they are all so cute. How can I tell which one will be the healthiest, relatively calm (not as much barking, etc), etc? Is there anything I can check for on the dog to see how healthy they will be or anything like that

I missed the westminster kennel club dog show due to a family emergency and I know that James the springer won bet in show [cheers] but I was just wondering what breeds won what groups. [eg. sporting, herding etc.]

Why do people buy dogs and then leaved them chained to trees. ?Most of my friends consider their dogs as part of the family and let their dogs live in the house. But, one friend has two dogs in his back yard chained to a tree. They never get any attention. If he didn't have a fenced in back yard. Why get dogs?

How come dogs get mad at you when you blow in their face, but then will turn around and stick their head out the window of a moving vehicle going at 55 mph and try to lick the wind?

for some reason I remember someone telling me that for dogs it doesn't really matter if you put a sweater on them or not.

I took my pomeranian puppy into the veterinary ER the other night because he had a seizure, but they were unable to determine the cause. He had had runny eyes prior to the seizure and now he has one eye shut. Are the two related? Could he have an eye infection that caused the seizure? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :) Thank you.

This makes me sick because she is always asking to bring him over here. (We live acres apart and separated by privacy fences but she tells me he does that) I have 4 female pugs (spayed) and I know her male dog eats his own poop. I know that he's an animal and he has no code of ethics he must adhere to. But isn't there something she can do to make him stop doing that? I'm serious. I love dogs or I wouldn't have 4 of my own. This makes Her sick too!! It makes us Both Gag and I don't know if he will teach it to my pugs!! I Plead Ignorance!! HELP!!!!

Hello. I have two very small pomeranians that are quite the little yappers. I need to invest in bark collars and someone suggested I go to www.dogtra.com. Have you bought from them? If not or even if so, what are some good, safe dog collars for tiny dogs?

I just adopted a puppy who they think is around 8 weeks from animal control yesterday. The puppy is sweet as can be, constantly wagging his tail and kissing faces, but it seems like all it wants to do is snuggle up and sleep on us almost all day long. It'll get up and sniff around for a minute or two quietly, then right back up on the couch it goes. I bought it all kinds of toys, but it has no interest in them. It hasn't eaten since I brought it home either. I'm kinda short on cash until next week, so I havent gotten a chance to take him to the vet. What do you think could be wrong with him?

I do not understand some people's metality regarding buying pets ( puppies mostly) from a pet store. WHY do people automatically think puppy mills and bad conditions?
I live in a town where we are the only store that sells puppies and kittens. There was another years ago, but they went out of business. The store I work for has been in business for over 30 years and is locally owned and operated. I have been with this company for more than three years. I would never work in a place that treated animals bad IN ANY WAY. ALL of our puppies come from local individuals and are sold on consignment. We will not keep them longer than two weeks. The owners must come back and get them after that time. They must sign a contract to be able to bring their puppies to our store. Our puppies are given shots, dewromed, and come with a free vet check with an AWESOME vet. They are fed Natural Balance and are treated wondefully, loved , etc. while they are in our store.
