YES, my airdale had asthma, i still blame myself for his asthma, for years he had allergies, at the time i did not think it would effect him later in life w/asthma, for more than one reason he did not receive the proper meds for allergies years back, one of the reason had been money, as you may already know vets are very expensive, however i did what i could afford at the time, his allergies stayed w/him all through the years, my finances got better & he finally received the med. treatment he deserved, but at the time it was unfortunately too late, he had asthma which he
was treated for, but at the age of 13 he had a asthma attack which lastest nonstop over 24 hrs, i consulted my vet & deceided
my best buddy should not suffer any longer, i had him put "asleep" which was one of he hardest things i had to do in my
life, my vet agreed it would be better for him since my good old
friend could not be cured. do not ignore the allergies, PLEASE,
get your dog treated asap, because due to long years of allergies
my dog had asthma later in life, trust me it is horrible to sit & not
being able to help him/her to breathe. just like people, dogs too
can have 1st allergies & later asthma. depending on what kind of
dog you have (some dogs are more prone to develop certain
illnesses due to inbreeding, etc. like cancer, asthma, and so on)
you should consult your vet, there are test which can be done to
find out if your dog is seriously ill, or just coughs for no apparent
reason, but do not just let it be.... if i would have had the knowledge i have now my buddy would never had to go through all
this suffering & i will never get over not doing the right thing back then, even though my finances were very limited than, still i now
think i could have done so much better, like making payments at
the vet, anyway get your dog checked to make sure
you have your buddy for a very long time as a healthy buddy, i wish you & your dog the best of luck, & hope she's going to be fine...

Yes they can they can get almost anything humans can. Asthma they would be born with most often, but of course it could worsen with age.
