There is a collar you can buy that will give the dog a little jolt when it barks to remind it that barking is not acceptable at that time. If you use the collar..you also need to let a dog be a dog. Take it to a dog park where it can run, play, and bark with the other dogs. There is also a surgical procedure...I don't believe in it, so you have to contact a vet for that info. Dogs are Gods creatures too, and barking isn't a bad thing when someone is trying to break into your home l recommend trying the collar...don't do the surgery cuz as I understand it God didn't make any mistakes when making the world and the thing in it.. Maybe a dog rescue in your area will donate one if you can't afford it.

There is something we do when our dog is doing something that he needs to be corrected for on the spot.

We have a few links of chain like the kind used on a kids swingset. This particular chain makes a high pitched jingle when you toss it around. Hardware stores usually carry it. The links should also be connected.

Once you have the chain handy, you wait. When your dog starts the unwanted behavior you whiz the chain at your dog. You want to aim at the dog not its head, maybe its rear, but you do want contact. If you do it correctly, you should only have to do this once maybe twice. From now on all you have to do is jingle the chain and the dog should stop the unwanted bahavior. One other thing when you first correct the dog with the chain you do want it to be a sneak attack. Also don't baby or coddle the dog afterwards this will only encourage more undesireable behavior.

Be careful not to break the window :)

doggie school...classes for the both of you.
i had a dog once that didn't quite do that, though one sunday morning when i FINALLY had a day off and could sleep in (after 2 months of 7/12s) he decided he saw a squirrel in the yard and it was the biggest deal in the entire world, he was all over that end of the house, and the bedroom was in that end of the house, and there was a window above the bed, so he decided to jump on the bed and tell me about the squirrel in the yard where i could see it...that was the only time really...he was really a sweet dog, and i didn't get mad at him or anything like that, i just told the kids to take him out and run with him for a while...but it did jar me from a pleasant sleep in a rather unpleasant way...

Shocking collar! Not the one with the electric shock... they have one's that are a sound. A bit annoying but better than a bark. Maybe the dog just wants to go outside to socialize.

you should take the dog(while on leash) to the spot to show that theres nothing there(and if there is he proved you wrong) and it will be satisfied and worry about protecting and will calm down knowing theres nothing there.
