A good quality dry dog food - I reccomend Royal Canin. It's the best on the market, you can purchase it at your vet's office. Neutro is another good brand.
Dog dishes
Sturdy dog toys meant for the size of your dog - Kong is a good one
A couple of bones or pigs ears for knawing on - again get a size meant for your dog
A dog bed
A brush
An anti flea medication - Advantage is the very best. Again can be purchased at your vet's office.
Lots of love

Depends entirely on the age of the dog. A pup would need a great deal more than an adult.
Generally, however, this is what you would need:
+++Two sanitary bowls, one for food and one for water. If yout dog is over 12 inches at the withers (shoulders) it's a good idea to get a rack on which to balance the bowls, so your dog won't have to bend as much to reach his food. ;) These bowls should also be porcelein or similar - not plastic. It's more sanitary, easier to clean, and less likely to collect and retain bacteria
+++One doggy crate in the appropriate size. Remember, when in doubt, get the smaller crate. A dog will not go to the bathroom in a crate that is small enough that he/she will be forced to sit in their own feces all night.
+++Puppy pads if the dog is not yet housebroken
+++A fitted collar with correct and easily visible identification
+++Money to take him to the vet for his pup shots!
+++Toys. Rubbery chew toys for teething pups, softer, more durable rope toys for older dogs.
+++A leash. The auto-wind ones are the best choice, but there are many options.
+++Low-fat, low-cal training treats.
+++A stock of food that your vet reccomends. Be sure to ask what the dog usually eats. Switching foods is known to upset a dog's stomach and cause vomiting and other digestional problems.
Have fun with your pup! I hope I haven't forgotten anything. ;)

1. Crate: get one big enough for you new pup to get up, turn, lie back down. and also large enough so he/she can stretch out. it's a place they can call their own. and helps house break them
2. Food bowl and Water bowl. Something heavy so they dont tip it over with one swipe. Also get a riser for them. it helps with gulping to much air in while eating/drinking. may cause gas. very stinky gas.
3. Toys of all varieties. and Treats!
4. A collar with a tag on it with your address and number. Put this on immediately after you get the puppy.
5. Get a bunch of vets and groomers names. Friends and families always give the best reviews.
6. If he is going to go to the bathroom outside, make sure you have a designated spot. If you are going to house break him inside (not recommended), get lots of wee pads and cleaning solution. I use Nature's Miracle and Zero Out.
7. Patience. Lots and Lots of patience.

food, water,food/water bowls ,crate(if inside dog) ,toys, leash, collar,id tag, also it is good to take to the local dog park to be social(note age requirement) love, affection, treats, you'll do just fine with youre new dog and if it gets sick its like a motherly instinct to take care of a dog (and if you don't have that instinct take it to the vet...)

TOYS, FOOD (DUH), water and food bowls, a leash, a collar, dog shampoo, a dog bed, chew bones, a dog brush, if its a puppy you may need something that will get pee spots out, and a cage for the dog. You're Welcome!
