She has had her first seaon and it's almost time to take her to the vets to be spayed. She's a lovely dog, very biddable and easy to train. Occasionally, when she's playing with my German Shepherd, she goes potty and zooms around the house or garden like a maniac. Sometimes I'm afraid she will hit something and do herself some damage. Will she calm down after spaying?

This is the 3rd time she's had this. Usually it lasts for 3 or 4 days. This time it's mostly blood, less diarrhea. I've taken her to two different vets where they've kept her over night to monitor her. They can find nothing wrong with her. Any ideas? Haven't changed her food or anything. Could it be worms? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I have a three y/o st bernard female that we got a week ago as a rescue. The people that were taking care of her said that it took some time to get her to eat dog food as her previous owner only fed her people food. She has not eaten in five days except some wet dog food off of a butter knife (like a kid eating peanut butter). Today I handed her one peice at a time of dry dog food until she ate...and I figured out her problem. She has such a big mouth, and such big jouls, that she has a real hard time with keeping the peice in her mouth as she chews. She is on kibbles and chunks right now...not the stuff by olroy, but the actual kibbles and chunks. Should I be finding a food with bigger peices to make it easier for her to bite, or should I find smaller peices so she can take a mouthful and chew. Is this normal for a St. Bernard to have trouble chewing because she is so clumsy with her mouth. Please help, I don't want her to get sick!

Hi All

Today I was going to get my bag of Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance and I ask the store manager what he think of the product. He said that he does not believe that buying for suitable for all life stages like Dick Van Patten's and Eagle Hollistic is notgood as it is not 'specially formulated' for a puppy. He recommened Advance,Eukanuba or Hills.

Then I go when I ask the fourms they said Advance Eukanuba and Hills is full of by products and he said that was good

Then I go compare the ingredient list from Dick Van PAttens and Advance Puppy Growth. They look both the same to me ? . Except Dick Van Patten does not contain corn,by products and has less Crude Fat and Crude Protein.

So what do you think about suitable for all life stages food ? Or should I follow him and get 'specially formulated food' I really do not want to be feeding my dog by-products

I keep doubting myself

I had an 7 week old puppy that ate an advil! I called the vet immediatley and he told me to give him a half of a cup of peroxide! I called the vet about 5 times to make sure that was the right amount. My puppy started to vomit and then became very ill, i then called the vet back and asked if this was normal! My vet then told me to take him to the ER, I ended up having to put him to sleep! I found out that the peroxide is what killed my puppy! I know have an $1100 vet bill and NO puppy and this vet does not want to help me with anything! What can I do!!!! What I want..... I can have..... my puppy!

Many people dislike or fear chows. They consider them to be mean dogs. What is your opinion of them as a breed?

I live in an apartment building and want to get a puppy. I know dogs bark, but can anybody recommend a breed that is generally quieter?

Also, I want a dog. Do not give me frou-frou breeds like chihuaha or poodle; I want a man's best friend-type of dog.

He is very stiff when he first gets up from laying down for a while. Almost like his back legs went to sleep. After standing for a minute or two he is fine and love to run and play. The vet says this is common for puppies with long legs but we are still worried. Sometimes he doesn't want to get up at all because of it. The vet recommended a food change and we did that but it isn't haveing any effect. The vet said it would go away at around 18 months or so. Anybody else have this issue with a standard poodle?

ok gonna give this one more try, then i'll give up. let me first say i do not feed my dogs anything but a high quality dog food, nor do i plan to feed them anything but dog food. ok with that said...earlier i asked about answers being givin on here that not only are not factual but downright wrong and dangerous. for the 3rd time today i have seen someone answer a question about feeding a dog human food with the answer of no it will cause worms. a dog only gets an intestinal parasite from eating the eggs and larvae of other parasties. wether that be from another dog's feces, fleas, wild animal, etc...i have seen a question about a dog eating chocolate answered several times by "it won't kill them but it will give them worms." my question is, am i the only one here that is disturbed by this? and the amount of people that agree with those statements? and does anyone really read this far into a question to give an intelligent answer?

My dog is going thru her first heat and is acting very strange. She is usually very independent, last few days though she has been wanting constant attention. In addition, I didn't think female dogs did the humping thing that male dogs usually do, but my arm is in constant jeopardy. Is this all normal?

OK, here is the story. I found this sweet Lhasa Apso loose in the neighborhood. She was about 5 or 6 years old. She disn't seem to like other dogs, but got along well with my kids.

Well, when I realized that she was in heat, I took her to the pound. My male Shih Tzu isn't fixed, so I thought that I shouldn't have them near each other and couldn't risk my kids not monitoring them well.

Now I see here at YA that I could be making money on breeding them together! I could have had Lhasa Shihs!!! What was I thinking!

What do you think? Did I deprive her of "the feelings of motherhood"? Did I missed out on "cute little puppies"? And couldn't I have made a lot of money selling these pure-bred designer CKC papered pups?
