I know this sounds like a troll, but it's not.

Can anybody tell me why someone would want to get artificial testicles for their dog? It makes no sense.

Some guy who probably was missing a ball or had tiny ones, and he has a narcissistic personality disorder, projected on his dog that his dog would surely be as embarassed as he was if that dog was missing a ball. So he invented neuticles.
Then he figured, since it was important to him, there must be other suckers out there who would pay big bucks to have their ego extension dogs implanted too.
When I first heard of this, I thought it was a joke, but it's not. Pretty warped, eh?

AN AMERICAN company has developed a range of polypropolene canine testicles to protect neutered dogs from psychological trauma.

The artificial testicles, called neuticles, are slipped into the dog's scrotum immediately after neutering.

According to a report in New Scientist, the canine accessories developed by the CTI Corporation of Buckner, Missouri, sell in large numbers in North America, where more than 900 pairs have been implanted since March.

"With these, the dog looks the same and doesn't even know he's been neutered," said Greg Miller, president of CTI. "Neuticles provide dog owners with a safe, practical and inexpensive option when neutering."

Admitting that some people thought his dog testicles were ridiculous, Mr Miller insisted that they were "big news in the veterinary industry". But veterinarians question whether the plastic substitutes would improve a dog's esteem.

I thought this neuticles stuff was a joke as well.

It turns out that male dogs are somewhat traumatized by the removal of their testicles.

Is is safe to do a neutering and an implant at the same time, perhaps making the proceedure safer and more cost effective?

However I do not think it healthy to have your dog go through too many surgical procedures, as major surgery is stressful on any living creature.

I would like to see more facts that show that having the testicles surgically implanted is the best thing to do for the animal.

It seems to me that one should consider what putting any foreign substance into any living creature will do to that creature.

Is is more harmful for the pet to have no testicles or have artificial ones?

Personally I would stay clear until more facts are known.

Seems a bit too gimmicky for me and simply another way to take advantage of pet lovers.

Yes, some quack decided that it would be "less traumatic" for a dog to think that his testicles had not been removed. If he's emotionally disturbed that his testicles are no longer present, what do you think all those hormone changes will do to his psyche?
Yes this is a scam, not to mention a potential health hazard inserting foreign materials into an animal. I am a technician at a veterinary office and by far the most requests for the implants are women who don't want their husbands to know that they've had their dogs neutered. To present a dog with neuticles at a show as an unaltered male? Big no-no.

It sounds strange but I it has a lot to do with the preference of the dog's owner. I'm not just making it up, as I've heard this from some other dogowners...I know we're talking about a dog's testes but some owners believe that removing a dog's testes alters a dog's natural state. Since inserting 'falsies' into a dog during a neutering procedure is as simple as simple gets, why not?

But as for the dog? Well, I know that if someone cut off my stuff I'd appreciate at least feeling like the person I used to be. Its surprising how animal behavior can mirror that of a human, so maybe a dog would feel the same way that I would. THAT part is just speculation. I really need to find a better way to spend Friday nights.

cosmetic reasons, some men they have this "thing" with nuetering dogs, and they feel horrible for doing it. Some people think it makes there male dog look, well less male. Some people think if the dog is a big aggressive dog then losing his cahonies will make him look less aggressive. So to make the owner feel better, the owner gets the boy dog FAKE testicle. The dog doesnt care. Personally i think its gross to be behind a dog with big hangers!!! My male coonhound foster that i had last year was so hangy... i was so happy when he got nutered, my male friend actually said he thought it look like those things hurt when they would swing around and hit his legs, table, wall, bed, counters, people you name it those things hit it. It was great when he came home from the vet and I think he felt about 10 lbs lighter even!

The purpose is for the owners benefit not the dogs, because the dog could care less if the testicles are there or not.

The original purpous is to cheat--- its a not so uncommon birth defect for a dog to only have one testicle visable (the other is usually inside the abdomen). Such dogs are not considered good breeding canadates and, since dog shows are still considered to be a showcase for breeding stock (outdated idea in my opinion), they are banned from the shows.
Now apparently many pet owners like the idea and the market came outta the closet & took off...

I thought it was a joke!! There is absolutely no purpose at all for artificial testicles. It just goes to show people are gullible enough to buy anything.

Dogs don't miss their balls! I don't believe that for a second. Neuticles are purely to make human guys feel better about their dogs. Some guys would honestly rather lose their lives than their balls. Crazy. Why are balls so valuable? All guys can do with them is make babies, and the guys that are the most attached to their balls seem to be the ones most terrified of knocking a girl up -- go figure.

"That took balls." --> balls = courage but in a badboy way. good.
"He's got big brass ones." --> whadda guy! also good.

Balls are good. Having balls is better than having no balls. Having big balls is better than having little balls.

Poor dogs...

(I just asked my husband what he thought was the purpose, and he said, It's just 'cause they're funny.)
