There isn't a vet near by, there nearest clinic is 7 hours away... Was wondering if there were any suggestions as to what to give him. He hasn't eaten all day, only water. The vet we contacted recommended to give him Pepto Bismo... to coat his stomach, and help settle it. But wishes for us to bring him to the clinic in the morning... with the storm coming on, it isn't an option... any other ideas?... would greatly appreciate ANY information....
Very worried, anything would help...thanks

We recently just got my dog flea dipped and it worked well. But what about the areas he's been laying on. Don't they have fleas on them to? How do I remove the fleas on areas he's been laying on safely so that they don't hop on to my freshly clean dog!

he has his own couch in our den and he has his ow chair in my room!

I have a crazy active dog. She gets lots of exercise, and is in search and rescue training at least twice a week, but she seems to need something to occupy her mind when we are home. I need to find something for her to do for an hr or so that doesn't need my full on attention. I just can't spend 12 hrs a day keeping her busy. This may sound way off, but I was wondering whether she might enjoy any toys meant for very young kids, or whether they make puzzle type toys for dogs. She is too smart for her own good, and it would be great if she could be learning while entertaining herself.

We have a female dog that we got from some friends. She is not a puppy anymore, and didnt have accidents in their home, but here has taken to "marking" on my rug almost every day, even after she has gone outside. What can I do to get her to stop this?
Thanks for any help you can give me...

What i'm saying is, i think it's a possibility that some dogs at the adoption center may come from a puppy mill. Why? maybe a guy bought a dog from the petstore(most dogs there are from puppy mills)then the guy abandoned the puppy, then it goes to an adoption center, so do you think that it might be possible that some dogs at the adoption center is from a puppy mill also?

I have a 3 month old retriever/sheperd mix who I'm trying to teach some manners. The main problem I'm having is that sometimes he goes psycho and starts biting things (including people). We do the dominance pin-down thing, but we want him to confine him to a disciplinary place (time-out area) for awhile. I usually send him to his crate, but I've read it's bad to associate negative feelings with the crate. So where should we confine him to without associating any negative feelings to his normal resting area?

I have a 3 month old female pit bull puppy and a 2 1/2 year old male boxer. I will be moving out of my house soon and into an apartment most likely. The boxer will not be coming with me. Since my puppy has been with another dog her whole life - litter mates up to 7 1/2 weeks and a boxer and a chihuahua ever since. The boxer plays with her all the time and the pair are practically inseperable. My puppy is well socialized with other dogs. My question is, do I need to get another dog to "replace" the boxer as her playmate when I move? If I do, do I want to get another boxer or a pit bull, or an entirely different breed all together? I don't plan on breeding my pup, since she's not registered. Your advice? And as for those who don't know or like the pit bull breeds - please refrain from answering.

Does anyone know of a reputable breeder that actually breeds the droppeared papillons? I've checked out the PCA and I don't even remember seeing a picture of a phalene, which leads me to beleive that none of the breeders would breed for that.

Right now I'm not actively looking, I've got my hands more than full with the puppy I recently got, but one day when I'm ready for another "kid" *one that will be registerable* I'd like to do it right so that I don't worry the way I am with my current puppy *i'll spare you the sob story.* By then I'll have a car and job with money of my own so it won't be an issue the way it was this time around, but If I don't know where to look I'll get impatient and do something stupid *again* because I am the physical embodiment of the "I want it NOW" generation.

Just checked, dropped type ears are AKC accepted.

How far back in years can you trace your dogs pedigree? I have traced most of mine back to the 1800's.

Many dogs...given the choice will choose to stay outside most of the time...some will not...my grandmother had a toy min. poodle who wanted to be outside unless it was freezing or raining.

My husband and I work during the day, and our dog stays in her crate until around 5:00pm. However, from the time we get home till the time we go to sleep we walk her, run with her, play with her, anything possible to keep her active.. She'll go to sleep with us when we sleep, but within 2 hours she's up again wanting to play.. and its a constant thing that carries on through the whole night. It's driving us nuts!!! any suggestions?

I've reached the point in my life where it's time to get my first dog. Growing up I had a golden retreiver, and a yellow lab. But I don't think I want another retreiver. My friend had a boxer who was the bestest dog. Of course he misbehaved, but the affection was amazing. I was very close with this dog.
But aren't boxers known for having bad hips? and can't they be too agressive with other humans and other dogs?
I'm also considering a rot weiller, but i've never known any personally. they might be a little too big for me too. I can't lift more than 100lbs I don't think. Not that I would need to lift my dog but I would like to be able to if I had to. I'm not looking for a dog that I can carry around. But I do want the dog to sit on my lap and not suffucate me.
Another friend of mine has a rotty / blue healer mutt. 25/75 respectively. He was really cool, and really intellegent. Very agile too. He looked like a professional running back when we played.

I am asking this question because of all the harsh or rude answers given for questions concerning mutts. The AKC name keeps coming up so I felt that everyone needed to have the link to the AKC so they can find their preferred breed and its history link to see what breeds it took to make that 'Pure Bred' dog you love so much. A kennel club is like an equine (horse) club they breed for quality and better traits of these animals. They are like scientists trying to achieve the best results with a breed they felt could be improved by adding another breed's traits.
Please check your breed and just think for a few minutes about what your breed was called before it was AKC recognized as a pure breed.
It was a- MUTT!!!!!!!!!

http://www.akc.org/breeds/breeds_a.cfm

And that's why we love them because those breeders worked hard to create a dog breed that you could enjoy and appreciate. My personal favorites are Chihuahuas and Redbone Hounds.

My Golden Retriever is very "put out" with the new Cocker Spaniel puppy. He did the same thing with my 3 yr old Shih Tzu when it was a puppy, but that only lasted 2 weeks. I've had my Cocker Spaniel puppy for 2 months. Help! I'm afraid that the Golden will hurt the puppy.
