What i'm saying is, i think it's a possibility that some dogs at the adoption center may come from a puppy mill. Why? maybe a guy bought a dog from the petstore(most dogs there are from puppy mills)then the guy abandoned the puppy, then it goes to an adoption center, so do you think that it might be possible that some dogs at the adoption center is from a puppy mill also?

Yes, I am sure there are puppy mill dogs in the shelters at times, but it is different adopting a pet from the shelter than buying a puppy from a pet store. If pet stores quit selling puppies, the puppy mills will not be able to stay in business, at least not on such a large scale.

Probably, because people who get a dog at a pet store as an "impulse buy" probably wouldn't think twice about dumping it when it becomes "inconvenient". Not to mention puppy mill b*tches that have outlived their "breeding usefulness" get dumped, too.

But the adoption shelter doesn't pay the puppy mills for dogs, and the adoption shelter isn't creating a demand for puppy mill dogs. The stores and the people who pay money to the puppy mills are.

Its possible but you will never get much of a background when adopting. But i can assure you nothing with that dog will be bad. Infact most shelters will help with any medical problems that dog has or had so your getting the better deal. Shelters are deffinetly better to get your dogs from first because if they arent adopted within a week or two they are put down.

The adoption centers and rescue's I know in my area constantly get puppy's and dogs from puppy mills, they say when they do.

The rescue I volunteer for constantly get tips on puppy mills and rescue many of them there. They either go to that rescue, or other rescue's take them in, so yes, they do

I am sure that many of them are. Puppy Mill puppies are genetically unsound. When they have behavioural issues or health issues, someone is bound to dump them off. Breed specific rescues are also loaded with these poor quality pups.

Ours just got 142 dog in from a mill in Oxford, that didn't include the pups. Most were so sick they had to be put down. It was an ugly scene.

Its a PROBABILITY that very many are puppy mill dogs - you see most reputable breeders will take back any of their dogs that the buyer cant keep any more. The other source of shelter dogs is the Back yard breeders.......
