I've reached the point in my life where it's time to get my first dog. Growing up I had a golden retreiver, and a yellow lab. But I don't think I want another retreiver. My friend had a boxer who was the bestest dog. Of course he misbehaved, but the affection was amazing. I was very close with this dog.
But aren't boxers known for having bad hips? and can't they be too agressive with other humans and other dogs?
I'm also considering a rot weiller, but i've never known any personally. they might be a little too big for me too. I can't lift more than 100lbs I don't think. Not that I would need to lift my dog but I would like to be able to if I had to. I'm not looking for a dog that I can carry around. But I do want the dog to sit on my lap and not suffucate me.
Another friend of mine has a rotty / blue healer mutt. 25/75 respectively. He was really cool, and really intellegent. Very agile too. He looked like a professional running back when we played.

Blue healers are herding dogs. They are breed to make cows get back in line. they make good working dogs. are very intellegent and can be affectionate. It really depends on the individual dog, not just the breed. That's like saying "what race girl should you marry?" Sure, you can stereotype all you want about latino vs asian etc, but it really depends on the woman.

Mini Dachshunds. Stubborn, but amazingly intellegent and quick, as well as loving. They get up to 11 pounds healthy, but mine is around 17. They're beautiful, affectionate dogs that will come to you when you're upset and curl up on your lap while you read, or rest, and watch TV with you.

Because you can't seem to decide, I think the best idea for you would be to just go to an animal shelter and see which dog seems to jump out at you. My dog is half lab, half collie, and it's really affectionate, kinda spastic (not like...muscle spasms or anything...she's just a spaz), and REALLY CUTE!!

It's not about the kind of dog you get but whether or not the dog will be your friend and companion. Go to a pet place and look for one that gives you the feeling that he or she will be a good friend.

I have 2 yorkshire terriers and they show me so much love and affection it is crazy! They are the first ones to greet me at the door and lick me to death everytime I come home. They are really small, but their personalities are amazing.
