I have a 6 month old Doberman female puppy, just went into heat two days ago. She looks sad and miserable, poor girl. We had appt to get her spayed next week, now we have to wait till the heat cycle is over. How long does it last and how can we relelive her discomfort?? And is there anything else I can expect to happen with this? Thank you... No, I will not get her laid, as much as she might like it, ha ha.

Well unfortunately there is no relief for a dog in heat. My lab is in standing heat now. They can have diahhrea, be very clingy and irritable to other dogs. They become in what is called standing heat between days 10 -12 and will be in standing heat usually a week. The heat cycle lasts about 3 weeks start to finish I believe. But the will only usually accept a male when in standing heat. The best advice I can give is patience, and lots of love for her during this uncomfortable time. Good Luck!

She is not in discomfort or miserable..she will need to be carefully watched that no male dogs find there way to her. She can NOT be let out unsupervised. Heat cycles last 3 weeks.
You will need to wait until 30 days after her heat cycle ends before getting her spayed. I would suggest making that appt. now

Heat cycle runs approx. 21 days. You will have to wait 1-3 months after to have her spayed..But don't wait so long next time around;-)
I do not believe dogs feel discomfort as we do.. They do not get cramps, etc.. However, she WILL WANT to mate in about 8 days and that will last about 6-8 days.. watch her, do not let her out potty alone even for a second!!

A heat cycle lasts 21 days from the first day of color (bleeding).
She should not be in any real pain other than maybe a little uncomfortable. Give her a soft place to lay down and plenty of food and water. And keep her put up so she has no way of getting near a male dog.
Best of luck.

I have a Miniature Doberman went through exact same thing. I would put a heating pad on very low on her belly she loved it. The cycle last different for all dogs. It was a while ago but I do beleive about 3 weeks? Beware for bleeding. Just give her time, love and her own spot on something you don't mind throwing out afterwards. My girl hid under the bed to be alone.

My German Shepherd Dog was due to be spayed at the same age and then same thing happened- she went into heat. She did escape and "get laid" but she still got spayed about a week after she was out of heat. No, she didn't have a doggie abortion. No pups were there yet.
So just in case your dog gets out, you can still get her spayed when she is out of her heat cycle.

Actually, she wouldn't like it. Mating traumatizes the youngsters terribly.
The time range of cycles are not predictable when this young.. Just as with human girls, all first cycles are different.
You can give her chamomile tea, to relieve her cramps and anxiety.
Just dump it out of the teabag, and give her 2 teaspoons (of the dry leaves) mixed in a *little*mushy food that she would like, such as canned dog food..
You will find the chamomile tea at any grocer's.

It lasts about 3 weeks from beginning to end ... you may want to get her some dog panties! It's her time of the month and it may not be pleasant.
