I’m thinking about one day owning and caring for a Goffin Cockatoo I am absolutely smitten with these cockatoos. However this would most likely be my first pet bird ever. Some internet sites say that they are noisy little monsters and destructive a good proportion of the time. I would love! love to eventually have one of these gorgeous birds that could well live up to 40-60 years and over. Now that’s over I have a couple of questions.

I was wondering how EXACTLEY, no sugar coating, demanding these lovely creatures are and if it’s the right sort of bird for a first timer, from a scale from 1-10.

Also how big should a cage be for a bird that most of the time that will be kept in its cage with plenty of toys to chew on and things to do so it won’t self mutilate/ feather pluck and kind of cage brand would be recommended. (I know lengthwise is more important than height wise)

What’s the best brand of food to feed these beauties?

A little barn swallow fell out of his next and is not ready to fly or be on his own. The parents are very upset, and are flying all around. Should we try and put the baby back in the nest?

I just read something on here about why birds bathe in dust, and the best answer was to prevent mites etc.
I love my birdies, and they stay on my shoulder, and I often give them little kisses on the chest....
Is this ok?

Does anyone have a pet duck that would be willing to give me some info? And does anyone know a way to diaper a duck that doesn't cost 30 dollars?

Can a parakeet be housed with a canary?

Why would you want that particular bird as a pet?

...find it cruel to keep a bird as a pet? I used to have a parakeet, when I was very young, that I allowed to fly throughout my house and trained it to poop in one specific area covered with newspaper.
Do you let your bird fly throughout your home, or is it left in a cage all day?

We found a family of ducks today; about 5 babies and a mother. They were in a city centre, nowhere near water...but well hidden and enclosed. The thing is, they are about 8stories below ground level (but outdoors)..in a big hole, if that makes sence! There is grass etc for them but we were a bit confused about why they were there and not near water etc...we cant imagine how they get food there. Would it be dangerous (for the ducks) if we moved them to a nice park with water where they would get fed...or does daddy duck visit/would changing their environment confuse them?! Random, i know...but we felt bad about it!

There was a small hawk-like bird on my balcony. I took pictures of it, then looked it up in the Audubon bird book. It was probably closest to a merlin, but even that wasn't exact. It almost looked like a young bird. Is there somewhere I can look or send the picture to find out what it was?

She is a small sized parrot. she eats a seed and throws like 5 seeds on the floor and keeps doing this.the bottom of her cage looks like a giant seed bowl

I finally got squirrels out of my hanging feeder but now I have a new problem. What I believe to be Mourning Doves fly to my feeder and just sit in it feasting on the seeds. The dove will clean out the entire feeder in about 30 minutes and I can't afford to feed them too! How can I keep them out but still attract the Cardinals, Wrens, Chickadees, etc. that I want?

A Friend gave me one of her hen's eggs this morning... She's a rookie at hatching and I'm no better. I don't have the money to buy an expensive incubator, but I was wondering if I used a high heat heating pad for the warmth and maybe a small fan for ventilation, plus a couple other things if it doesn't make it to 100 degrees F. I need suggestions!!! I Really want to make this work for the both of us. Are plain heating lamps okay??

Help! Thank You.

I just adopted a cockatiel from a rescue service and she has a cobweb on her (which i can't get off) and also dry flaky skin. (Some of the flakes were on her feathers too.) Do you know what this is? I am taking her to the vet but should I make a sooner appointment?

I am trying to understand why people would go to the trouble of rescuing a sick, injured or orphaned wild animal, then refuse to take it to a trained rehabilitator. Rehabilitators know how to care for the animal without making it a pet, know how to provide the proper nutrition, know how to properly prepare it for release, and know how to teach it to recognize and find its natural food. They also know how to condition a bird for flight. So, why do so many people claim they care so much for the animal they rescued, but refuse to get it the trained, professional help it needs?

My little neighbour found a hurt robin in her backyard one day ago and is trying to nurse him/her back to health. Her dog got the baby. The live one drinks water but has not eaten since yesterday. She sits quietly, not moving. My little friend is doing all she can. Any tips? She cannot go to the vet.

my neighbor is trapping pigeons and killing them afterwards.
i know they are a really nuisance here (and probably not protected by law) - but is it legal to kill them?

what should be done with trapped pigeons? releasing them somewhere else? (which would me more humane and probably completely legal)

They have a barn stable, so I know its not the heat and they have all the water and food they could ever want! I even mix laying mash (a special helper to get them to lay eggs) in with every batch of corn and nothing for about two weeks. I have looked everywhere for eggs, becuase they have buried them before. The entire stable is chicken wired, so its not another animal eating them and I am very VERY stumped. They've always layed eggs, even in this kind of heat before...pleaqse respond if you have ANY CLUE

I found a little baby in my front yard today just a few minutes ago. I think it might have fallen out of it nest because, it seem like it leg hurting and can't fly, I don't know where it nest is. But it is alive and well. I put it in a box now because I fear that cats might get to it.

What should I do with it?
