my neighbor is trapping pigeons and killing them afterwards.
i know they are a really nuisance here (and probably not protected by law) - but is it legal to kill them?
what should be done with trapped pigeons? releasing them somewhere else? (which would me more humane and probably completely legal)

apparently he is "wringing their necks" (breaking their necks???) as he calls it....he says it's completely legal and the most human method to dispose them. don't know about that. ?.

Im sorry but I do not have any sympathy with the pigeons at all.I loathe them. they got into my bedroom whilst I was abroad and made a disgusting mess of it. I had to have all the bedcovers and bedding thrown away and the room thoroughly cleaned out and disinfected. I would have done exactly the same thing as your neighbour horrible as it may seem. They are the most disgusting bird of all birds. By the way they are trying to get rid of them from Trafalgar Square also. I dont mind if you give me the thumbs down because I KNOW what they did to my home!!!

While pigeons are not a protected species under the Migratory Bird Act, there are animal abuse laws that your neighbor may be violating. How is he killing the birds? If I were you, I would report him to the local SPCA or other authorities.

Go call animal control ASAP! NOW NOW NOW NOW! Don't regret it as peigons are actually doves and he is kill the peace birds! So WHAT they poop?!? WE POOP TOO!

Well, some nasty person below me dosen't think it's normal for an animal to make a mess...I bet if they see a white dove somewhere she won't have the same reaction. Peigons are actually called rock Doves.DOVES! Meaning everyone here who is complaining about the mess they made are COMPLETE RACISTS!

Pigeons are considered to be a public health menace in many cities around the world, even to the point of being referred to as ''airborne rats". I'd kill them, regardless. I would be VERY surprised if it would be illegal. The most humane, painless and quickest way to kill them is to snap/wring their neck.

Placing a plastic owl on his roof might do it. They know owls are preditors so they try to avoid being around them.
It's probably not illegal, BUT...if he lives within city limits and is for example...shooting them, it may be illegal to shoot a firearm within city limits. Also, you MAY want to see if you need a license to kill pidgeons in your area...and if as the above poster suggested...baiting them may be illegal too, just like in many areas...fishing with canned corn is illegal.

call the animal control dept at the police. to report him. i wouldnt think they would be coming around unless the idiot has food out and is feeding the birds. but NO he shouldnt be killing them.

where does he live ill make sure he doesnt hurt anymore pigeons.. report him to the cops he will be arrested

It is legal. They are not native to the U.S.
