I like all types of birds, but my all-time soft spot are Scarlet Macaws, but since they are noisy I cannot have any for fear of getting into trouble with my neighbors. But that's fine since I have a lot of finches and doves which I am very happy with.

If someone were to give me a bird, I would politely refuse since I do not accept birds as presents. Whenever I want to buy a bird I always choose the bird personally to make sure I can pick the healthiest of what is available and thus guarantee a healthy stock.

I don't really think I would want a bird, had a couple and liked them but they are a lot of work.
Had a blue parakeet once and the kids were supposed to take care of it but didn't so they gave it to a friend.

One day I was in my kitchen and heard a weird noise and there was a green parrot on my porch rail. I live 5 miles from the nearest town. So I slowly approached it and it jumped on my arm so I figured it was tame. The kids loved it, we got it a cage and called around to friends to see if they knew anyone who lost it.
Well, a month or so later someone called and said her friend lost one, it flew out the door one day when the kids were in and out. So I contacted the people and they took it back. The mother , 30 years old, had cancer and her husband had gotten it for her. She died about a year later. No one wanted the bird so they gave it back to us and it was so noisy and I really didn't like it so they found someone else to take it. Well, I was glad I took it back to her when I did.

i think of puppy birds are a lot relaxing. I had an African gray some years in the past and took it to the vet who shook powder over him poison him. He became a lot relaxing. i'm now the proud proprietor of 8 Rosellas, 3 of that have been born in my own residence. they are the funniest and maximum relaxing birds you have - they have me guffawing all day. The youthful ones are distinctly humorous. they don't certainly communicate with words yet you may pay attention them answering me once I consult from them. they have specific voices for me and distinctive voices for all the different birds. They argue and combat with one yet another purely like human beings and are so mischievous.

I love all birds, but I've always wanted a major mitchell/citron hybrid cockatoo. They're BEAUTIFUL and very sweet, but I can barely squeak by with my rescue center, so I can't go around buying expensive birds like that. the 'Toos are my favorite because they are easy to train, have a wonderful and very distinct personality (sometimes even sarcastic) and just LOVE to be petted and act like dogs when they play.

I would want an African Grey Parrot or a Macaw.

Because they are highly intelligent and make wonderful companions for life.

I currently have Indian Ringneck Parrots, Cockateils and Chickens too. Not to mention the goat, dog and cat!

We have taken in two quakers so far that needed homes. I think I'd take in pretty much whatever bird needed a home! But I do have a "wish list"! At the top is the male eclectus- because they are beautiful, smart, and every one that I've ever met has been a charmer....

I want an African Grey Parrot, please.
I have two parekeets already (trying to breed them the nest has been in the cage 4 days 2 days they were freaked).
I am amazed how beautiful they are, and possibly very smart.
If I had one that I could teach to talk I'd feel great.

Don't give your friend a bird, please! You need to know A LOT about birds before you own one, for instance, they CANNOT be kept on a seed only diet! Seriously, its a bad idea to give pets as presents, especially seeing as you have to ask what to get, whoever you have in mind probably dosn't want a bird. Also they can be extremly noisy!

Disregard this if you are just asking as a matter of interest.

I'd want Uncle Sam to give me a golden eagle as a skilled and capable hunting partner.

But I'd only accept it if I felt I could let her live up to her full potential as a willing hunting partner, which isn't going to happen any time soon.

So Uncle Sam, keep those eagles free for me!

Hummingbird, but I would set it free. Birds were meant to be free and in their natural habitat, not stuck in a cage in someone's home for their pleasure. I can do without hearing, "Polly want a cracker" so the bird can be free.
