I just adopted a cockatiel from a rescue service and she has a cobweb on her (which i can't get off) and also dry flaky skin. (Some of the flakes were on her feathers too.) Do you know what this is? I am taking her to the vet but should I make a sooner appointment?

Her previous diet was perhaps not ideal. If she was on seed only with no greens or vegetables then she is likely vitamin A deficient. One of the symptoms is dry flaky skin. Once her diet improves with you that will reverse. I don't know your bird experience but feathers emerge through the skin covered in a thin sheath of keratin which birds preen away. You may also be seeing these flaky bits of keratin which would be normal. Try giving her a light shower by putting warm water in a bottle mister and spraying above her, letting the water fall down on her. This helps keep the feathers clean and usually prompts preening.

I had a cockatiel as quickly as who did a similar concern and he became into bored and under pressure. i attempted each and every thing i ought to and it became into very distressing and it have been given so undesirable he died. some years later we inherited yet another cockatiel. a similar technique began back out got here his feathers with all the screeching to boot. This time we enable him have a fly around and crammed the sink up with heat water, after a mutually as of attempting this he settled and splashed around in the water making a appropriate mess. We talked to him perpetually and stroked him. He have been given so used to us that he might land on our heads and %. our ears if we disregarded him. So for us this time it labored, I choose you success.
