Birds - July 2007

I'm full on against hunting my family raised me to believe hurting an animal is wrong. My boyfriend's family is all hunters which I'v kinda learned to deal with but his parents are gone and they left me to watch their house and in the garage there are 2 pigeons that his dad will use to teach the dogs to fetch when he gets back. I'm very upset about this especially since I have been feeding and taking care of them the last week. isn't this a type of animal abuse? what excuse can I come up with so maybe I can let them go? I don't want his family to hate me but this is wrong!! hunting is bad enough but killing animals right in his back yard to train his dog that's disgusting!!!

I LOVE feeding the wild birds in my yard and I have tons of bird feeders hanging in my yard and lots of diffrent species come and feed.I've started wondering since I'm inviting so many birds into my yard am I putting my self and family at risk from contracting the Bird Flu Virus??? I don't handle the birds at all but I do come in contact with the feeders when I take them own to clean them>

I have a approx. 6 month old female cockatiel and she has a bump on her chest that has yellow dots on it. Im worried that it might be something bad like a tumor. Please tell me what you think it might be or if you have had similar experiences with your bird.

Well I'm not really sure if I got a hand raised budgie or anything, but I just bought two today and they seem to be very tame. I can already scratch them on their heads and they go on my finger without running away. Should I keep doing this for the first few weeks? After they master this, what do I do next? I'm really excited about my two new boys! On the way home, I was talking to them and they moved closer to me as I talked and listened! Anyway, thanks in advance xP.

i didnt realize what a cuddle bone was needed for, so i didnt have one for about a year. my birds beak is extremely long and touches the bottom of his neck. hes a budgie and its about 2cm around the curve. i got him a cuttle bone but he dopesnt know what it is and wont use it, even though i try to teach him how to. how can i get him to eat his cuttle bone. is there another non surgical way to shorten his beak? should i try a flavored cuttle bone? My parakeet is loosing some of her feathers. She had scaly feet a few weeks ago which is now gone. But she has much less feathers than my other 2 keets. Under her wings and belly have very few feathers, why is this?

i have small worm type (white bugs) that almost look like maggots and also little fly type things - does anyone know if these are from my bird or what they are caused from? I've gotten wonderful help from other people on yahoo who have had similar experiences.with having to have their birds leg aputated. Now I'm wondering though how to prepare its cage for when it comes home. We are going to give it our lovebirds cage because its old cage is much too tall. What should I put on the bottom of the cage and what about food and water dishes? Any help?

In my dream I saw this bird. It looked like a healthy bird with the side of a little bigger than a duck. It was mostly write with gray and black-black ground and pink on the chest.
