I am not quit sure what animal lover is thinking. If your bird has the body shape of a New Hampshire Red it is not a Leghorn or an Orphington. None of these birds even have the same body type. A New Hampshire Red is a Duel purpose bird that averages 6.5 pounds. A Leghorn is an egg layer that averages 4.5 pounds. If you look at a picture of a Leghorn you will see that it looks nothing like the New Hampshire Red. You will also see the same in the full-feathered 8 pound Orphington.
Also there are so many chicks that are born yellow. The chance that a yellow chick may be a Leghorn is pretty slim. Here are some breeds that hatch out yellow. White Cornish, White Leghorn (Red Leghorns hatch out red), White and Buff Orphington, New Hampshire Red, Rhode Island Red, and Minorcas are just a few.
As for the breed of your bird I am lead to believe that it is a mixture of birds. The only bird I can think of that is red with a white tail and the same size as a New Hampshire Red is the Red Sexlink. But, this wouldn’t be possible because only hens have this look because all the roosters are yellow with brown patches. Besides that I can’t think of another breed so I would say you have definitely got a mixed breed bird.
