to pet a budgie start by stroking it's throat. You are scaring it by going for it's head. After it is used to being touched you can pet his throat and go on down to it's feet, and he will perch on your finger. It's normally only possible to teach a baby budgie to talk. The ones in the pet stores are already too old to learn. Try repeating the same word or sound a lot, daily. You can tape your voice doing this and play the tape for your bird to learn to speak. Boys usually have a blue 'cere' above the nostrils. Girls are more pinky. Read all about budgies to be sure yours is happy. They love a mirror, need grit on the floor of the cage, need perch covers made of sandy paper for their claws, need a cuddle bone for their beak, they love ladders--the toy ones.

Well to begin with birds to not (normally) like their heads touched... so that would explain the biting. You can make the bird tamer by spending more time with it and finger taming it. Budgies that have no other companions need ALOT of attention, like most birds. U can tell if its a boy or a girl by the color of the cere. In females the cere is generally a dark brown. Male on the other hand have a bright blue cere. The cere is the sort of nostril above the beak. Younger budgies are harder to tell the gender. Males tend to have purpleish ceres while females have white with a hint of blue at the bottom. I hope i have been some help!!!

Well, I have Budgies, and I taught them to talk. I kept repeating a phrase. At night time, I said goodnight every night. Now when they are ready to go to bed, they say goodnight. The best way is to repeat something that you want then to learn at a certain time in the day.
