I have a approx. 6 month old female cockatiel and she has a bump on her chest that has yellow dots on it. Im worried that it might be something bad like a tumor. Please tell me what you think it might be or if you have had similar experiences with your bird.

The area is soft and when i touch it it seems to bother her. Im not really sure if she is a female but the store said she was.

It might be the bird's crop because the swelling of the chest goes down in the morning but i can still see yellow spots. If you have any pictures if a birds crop please post them.

Are you sure that you are not looking at her crop and the yellow dots are the seeds?

The crop is just below the throat and is a reservoir of sorts for food until it moves down into the stomach(s). The skin across it is thin and when it is stretched with food you can actually see seeds through it. Check it first thing in the morning before she has eaten and if the lump is gone, then you are looking at the crop. Just a couple weeks ago on here, someone with a cockatiel also confused the full crop for a tumour.

Here is a photo of an adult lutino with a full crop, she plucks, so the crop is VERY visible

Where exactly on the chest? the upper, more towards the beak or lower towards the legs and tail?

You should take your bird to the vet and have the bump examined. It may be a cyst or a tumor. either way it should be checked by an avian vet.

Sounds like a big cyst and the bird needs to go to the vet ASAP! The longer you wait, the worse it will get.

sounds like a cyst or some kind of abnormal lump, I would definately get it checked out by a vet to find out exactly what it is
