Unlike most other species with aggressive males and passive females, putting two females together would be a recipe for disaster. They will be constantly fighting and the stress might kill one or both of them. Even with only one female, she can be very agressive. I had a female for 8 years. Before she died, she systematically killed off all the other birds (all males) we would put in with her. She was so aggressive, she would harrass the other birds, stressing them out until they died (parakeets are very sensitive to stress). We just let her live alone the last couple years of her life.

Three together (three males, or two males and one female) is about the maximum you should have in one cage, unless it's a big aviary. But, if you really insist on getting another one, get another male.

BTW - the color of a parakeet's plumage does not have anything to do with its gender. Look at the bridge of the beak in a fairly mature bird (more than a coupla-few months old). If it's kind of an opaque blue, it's a female. If it's just a plain tan color, it's male. Very young birds all have tan beaks and it's very difficult to sex them.

Might be a good idea. Will the 4 be housed in an aviary big enough for all to fly away from another if problems come up?
If not, be so careful adding a new bird to the mix. Very careful. They have set up their system and a new bird will upset it.

If all 3 get along without any fighting, just leave them alone.
Only if the boys quarrel over the girl, would you want to get another female.

You should get a new parakeet because it will be by himself in the cage. you can play with them both so none of them loose interest in you. But it would've been better if you got two parakeets at the same time. but if you don't want another bird get a stuffed bird to put in its cage so he wont be lonely. You can get it at pet co. Good Luck

you don't NEED to get one, but if you WANT one it's a different story and go ahead and get one. Also I think the green ones are males and the blue ones are female. So if your're looking for another female, go blue.

depends on why you are getting them and if you have the time for them. all animals require attention some more than others. I for one dont care the people who have a pet just so they can say I have one. do you handle your birds? watch them? usually when you have a several birds in one cage you have to worry abvout the cage size not just is everyone getting along.

Sounds like you may have a growing collection here. Just don't end up with dozens of them.

I had this problem with tropical fish. Never had enough species and colors. Addictive.
