Doves are grain feeders, they don't eat bugs, worms, berries or fruit. Just grains and seeds. There are pelleted diets available for doves and pigeons, but other than that they do best on straight grains, wheat, milo, barley, peas, corn, safflower, etc., and a regular vitamin supplement, grit, calcium, and a trace mineral supplement, such as pick stone.

I think I can help you with an answer to your question. I have raised doves for a number of years now and find that they love lettuce! You have to shred it up for them because they seem to have difficulty tearing it. Also, they love carrots, & cabbage, shredded or grated finely of course. Peanuts, they like peanuts. Mine wont eat fruits of any kind, I've tried various pieces and they just turn up their beaks at it.
Plus. I make my own special "receipe" for bird food that my ringneck doves just love. Go to your butcher and ask for some fat. The fat that comes from the kidney area of the beef is the best. You might be able to find a slaugher house that can give you some of it as well. You have to render the fat down, melt it . Be careful not to have the temp to high or it will splatter and that really hurts! When it's cool I grind up bird seed, and other cereal grains like, barley, dried peas, the green and or yellow kind, lentils, various types of dried beans. I use a coffee grinder to grind them into a finer powder or use a blender on high speed. It should look like coarse grade corn meal--(oh yeah--add some of that too , corn meal) Stir that into the melted fat and mix until it looks like pie dough or little round balls. If it looks to 'soupy' add some type of grain flour like wheat or soy but not white flour--they don't like it. At least mine don't.
The mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for a long time. Now, that is my own secret recepie!
They also like gram crackers or saltines and corn flakes. I find my doves to be very picky about what they eat.
And don't forget to give them grit. I use egg shells. Again I grind them up into smaller particles and set them out into a seperate dish and they will eat it as they need.
Hope this was helpful
