Same thing goes if you put a bobby pin in one hole on an outlet you will not get shocked, but if you put them in both holes at the same time you will definitely get shocked.

Why??? It is because a bird is not touching anything connected to the ground. Electricity wants to travel through the ground and the bird is not touching anything touching the ground! So in other words the bird is not hanging on a rope!
