Whether or not it is "best" to buy from a breeder probably depends on what you are looking for in a companion bird. Many people are unaware of the problem of unwanted birds and therefore would not even think of adoption. You can google for a rescue/sanctuary in your area or look on
birdtoyoutlet.com at their Bird-Rescues page. And to learn more about the growing problem of unwanted birds, go to fosterparrots.com/mission.html.

Try calling around...most counties have local bird clubs and many members are breeders. Also, call any avian vets in the area, they may have a listing or some helpful info. The bird magazines, like BirdTalk also have lists of breeders by state toward the back of the magazine. If you buy directly from a breeder rather than a pet store, you are more likely to get a sweet, hand-fed baby that won't be hard to handle or need taming.

hey, aww conures are great parrots and they are very loving and are classic clowns. ur best companion would be a just weaned handfed conure from a breeder. u can check on the internet or checking one of these sites http://birdsnways.com
or http://birdbreeders.com there r tons of birds for sale and the breeders are very reputable but u should ask as many questions as possible. also be prepared for lots of noise as conures have constant vocalizations. do ur research and find out as much as u can about ur conure. there are many varietyies so look around and good luck. i hope u find the perfect companion.

Yeah go for it, definitly buy a handreared bird from a breeder, they are brilliant pets. Petstores are where breeders dump their lesser quality or sick birds usually.

Feed it Harrisons pellets and fresh veg and fruit though, it will be unhealthy if fed on seeds only, and will have costly vet bills in the long run.

Good luck! You will have a lot of fun!

Eva

Good luck

An internet search will yeild the results you are looking for. Check your local petfinder as well. Contact avian vets in your area. Search for bird groups in your area as well. Pick up a copy of Bird Talk magazine, it has breeders listed in the back.
