how can you train a dog to not eat stuff it finds lying around? Prescription glasses, paper, socks, etc. -- you get the idea.

I told him my thoughts wrt this. > : \ but I also told him I would ask the experts here.

TIA. :)

I just recently adopted two, five month old kittens.
They where found at about 10 weeks with their mom, they hadnt seen humans and were feral.
Both are females, and house cats that will be getting spayed soon.

The cats dont really mind being held, IF you can catch them.

I have them so they are not so afraid of me, one of them will come up to me and kind of let me pet it.
The other one wont come near me unless im feeding it.

The cats are very afraid of the rest of my family, or anyone else who comes into my house. They wont even come out when my boyfriend is in the room.

Most of the time the tiger cat (the scaredst one) just hides under my bed while people are around.
The black and white one will too, but eventually comes out and checks things out.

They purr when you hold them but I just cant catch them and I dont want to scare them by chasing them all around the house just to hold them.

So does anyone know anyways to help my kitties be happy around people?

I have plenty of time to devote to my husky after 4:00p.m. But she seems to be lonely while i'm gone. My neighber says she will just lay on the living room floor most of the time i'm gone. Should I adopt anoter dog to keep her company? She is used to living with two other dogs. I just moved out of my parents house. They have two dogs. I can afford food and vet care for another dog. That would not be a problem. I just don't want two lonely dogs on my hands. This was a suggestion from my neighber. She comes over to let my husky out to do her business at 12 noon.

Yes, monkeys can be cute, cuddly, mischievous, and above all the funniest type of animals we ever see. Monkey's for what I know are the primates of human beings. Are monkeys (such as capuchins, lemurs, chimpanzees, ect.) considered to be pets like cats, dogs, birds, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, fish, ect.? Explan, why or why not.

This question came up to me when I was reading the answers from NOdesignerdogs "post" about purebreds being in shelters....
and someone mentioned that most purebred who end up in shelters come from puppy mills, backyard breeders as no respectable breeders would "give" their dogs to irresponsible owners.... really? how can they be so sure? (genuine question -no debate)
my brother in law bought a puppy from a breeder and the dog is now agressive to the kids, growls, grabs the kids... I say it's not the dog, it's them, my brother in law and my sister in law. but what about the breeder???? that breed (visla) needs a lot of exercise and my brother in law's family is the opposite of the active family. and we all know what happens to a dog that does not have enough exercise or/and training!
Why did the breeder sell that puppy/dog who is now miserable in this inactive family to my brother in law? who confirmed me that he was indeed a respectable breeder...

This morning we found 2 kittens in the wild, and we thought they were abandoned. We took the first one inside, but when I went to get the other one, the mother was taking it away.

The one we have is only a few days old and its eyes haven't opened.

We put it outside for its mother to take a few hours ago and it is mewing for her.

Will she take her and how long should I wait until we go get her?

I don't know what to do---I want to be humane and I don't want it to die.

A wild cat had kittens in my neighbors yard. They are wild except for one that is very outgoing and comes over to my yard when my kids are out and I have been feeding it because it is very skinny. I am guessing it to be about 8-10 weeks old. Well the cat has preferred to stay in our yard now waiting for attention. I was going to take it to the vet and get its shots and find it an indoor home. Yesterday when I got home the kitten was there and it wasn't acting right. It would not eat, it's tail was down and when you picked it up it just sat still, also breathing heavy and fast. (usually very excited when being held.) It just laid in our flower bed all evening. I had my son take it back to the neighbors yard so that it could spend the night with its siblings and then I was going to get it in the morning and take it to the vet. This morning it was gone. Do you think it went off and died? Or could it have been doing better? Maybe it was stepped on and internally injured? any info would help

I don't have small kids, he only fights with 1 of 4 other males. He has to go through the living room to go out. If he happens to want to "mark" it, we can't stop him w/out him growling & snapping at us. He was much worse when I got him & I've worked 1.5 yrs to get him this far. Sometimes he's just a sweet playful dog.

the selayang council in malaysia has instigated a really really really stupid DOG CATCHING COMPETITION.
it goes like this. the person who catches the most strays are rewarded with a large sum of money.
i can bet my life that these dogs that are caught are to be put down.
malaysia has really done it this time. i can say that what this competition is all about really does not set a good example for the coming generations.
i am disgraced by my country.
and therefore pls sign the petition below to stop this stupid competition

What would you do to that person if you knew you would never get caught? I'm not talking about someone hunting an animal for food...I'm talking about malicious torture...

How many cat owners know that slug pellets can poison cats if they consume them? My next door neighbours found a very ill cat in their garden a couple of weeks ago which was having seizures as well, and according to the vet they took it to it had probably eaten slug pellets. The cat eventually died.
I don't use slug pellets (or own a cat) so it's not a problem for me, but how many cat owners use slug pellets in their garden without considering the effect it could have on their pets?
