Yes, monkeys can be cute, cuddly, mischievous, and above all the funniest type of animals we ever see. Monkey's for what I know are the primates of human beings. Are monkeys (such as capuchins, lemurs, chimpanzees, ect.) considered to be pets like cats, dogs, birds, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, fish, ect.? Explan, why or why not.

I think the question should mor be " how can we define what is a pet".
the dictionary (oxford university press) says that a pet is :
1 an animal, a bird, etc. that you have at home for pleasure, rather than one that is kept for work or food.
2 a person who is given special attention by sb, especially in a way that seems unfair to other people

So whether we consider that non-human primates are too close to human being or not .... a monkey can be a pet .. because a human can also be a pet... (def 2).

to me we have to not consider them as pet, because they not suppose to leave with human ... not so long time ago, we where living with other species by necessity (dog for defense and hunting, cats for protecting the grain from rat and mice, cow for food ...ect), the notioon of leasure animal is very recent, and should be applied only to animal that have been humanised a long time age.
You can answer me that i am wrong .... for example, some people with disabilities have monkeys as help in thier house ... so why not ???

Ethic .... wildlife is already impaired enough to not spoiling it more ...

It's really a personal opinion. If you have no experience with caring for a monkey- you simply do not need one. They are a lot more complex than people think. Also, some monkeys can become very aggressive (especially when in heat). I do not think having a pet monkey is safe or smart for anyone. Unless you have a monkey habitat for your backyard- you don't need one.
Also, the difference in having a dog or cat and having a monkey is that dogs and cats have been domesticated for years and years and monkeys have not so they are still wild animals. Monkeys are also very expensive to care for so most people that get them end up surrendering them to animal control because they cannot properly care for them and find them unpredictable.

When I was younger my father had a pet monkey. Two actually one was a cotton top tamarin the other was a spider monkey and I suggest if you want a monkey it be a sea monkey. Stay away from monkey's. I remember them being very loud and throwing their poop! And I was 5 at the time that was almost 31 yrs ago. If you have cat allergies there are hairless cats if you MUST have a pet also there are anti allergen dogs

They don't, because they're not domesticated like the other animals you mentioned. The other animals you mentioned have thousands of generations of domestication - that is, choosing the most docile members to breed and produce docile babies for pets in their past.

But monkeys have only been bred for pets for a few generations, or more likely been pulled right off their mothers in the wild. While as babies they are cute, around 3-5 years depending on the breed of monkey, they enter adolescence and go back to their wild natures.

Do a google search on pet monkey warning sites...you'll be astonished at the wounds even monkeys without teeth can do to the human body!

Monkeys do not make good pets for the average person, and even the few that can keep one spend a tremendous amount of time with them. They need constant socialization, many monkeys become less "cute and cuddly" once they reach sexual maturity and become very hard to handle. They are also very messy animals (the whole monkey throwing poo idea is around for a reason) and need large elaborate enclosures. Not to mention finding a vet for proper vet care.

When I seriously researched getting a Chimpanzee for a pet, (I have a BS Zoology and wanted to get a PHD in Primates) I was told keeping a monkey was similar to having a 3 year old. They require diapers changed, social interaction, daily baths , strict feedings, etc. They really need around the clock care, "daycare" so to speak while you are at work or they turn aggresive.

Thye make terrible pets and do not adapt well to living in a human environment. As they become sexually mature, they often become aggressive. They also can transmit diseases to humans. They are outlawed in many places for these reasons.

well, monkeys arent ur average pet, mostly due to the conditions of living they need to be supplied with...yes, they can be cute cuddly and so on, but they;re also difficult to predict...maybe u can get along with them, just like Dr Doolittle :P

they may be ok when they are young and small, but primates make horrible pets because when they reach maturity they turn mean. primates are not domesticated like cats, dogs, rats, etc...

i wouldn't.

it's not a sensible pet... they need a LOT of socialization and continual care... they are more like a kid than a pet. nothing like a dog, that's for sure.

leave them alone often? they will become depressed and could become aggressive and angry.

better off with a hamster.
