....can you believe this is a statement I get quite a bit at the veterinary hospital where I work. Many people will come in and say "We are moving today and I cannot place this cat". We are not a shelter, we are a hospital...these people obviously have known they were moving months ago. I have a hard time not being rude to these people, it happens with dogs too....They expect us to take in their pets without donations, without anything. Please tell me how to deal with these people without losing my job. The excuse is they don't want to drive 20 miles to a shelter, nor do they have the funds to donate anything for care.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..................then I get the, "Well if you aren't going to help me, I will just go dump it out in the country".....I am getting weary of self righteous people that think so little of these furry creatures

She might have eaten something with poison. She has thrown up 3 times and just lays there. She's a Chiuahua and she is always hyper. I hate to see her this way. We gave her Pedialyte last night. Is there anything else I can do?

Breeders: What do you consider "healthy enough" to breed? If the sire and dam are vaccinated and receive a clean checkup by your regular vet, do you consider this enough to ensure the puppies will be healthy?

Puppy Buyers: Do you consider "Parents vet-checked and healthy" to be a selling point? Is this the only health check you worry about when looking for a puppy?

Ok recently my pup started destroying the house when we leave. He has never done this before. Last night he ate two bags of cupcakes and muffins that where on the counter, chewed up a DVD and it's case. Even chewed through my daughter bag. If we put him in the garage then he whines and whimpers and barks and I don't want to bother the neighbors or have them call someone because he is doing this. He is only left alone for a couple of hours three days a week. I don't know what has gotten into him. Like I said he just started doing this and nothing in the situation has changed. Any advice? Thanks

Hello. I have always had an animal in my life. We had guinea pigs, but hubby was allergic so we gave them away. We had a dog and hubby was allergic, but it didn't bother him that much because he left the dog alone. I really want a kitten/cat, but am afraid that he will be allergic. I know he will never agree to owning an animal (he just isn't an animal lover like I am) so I was thinking of just getting one anyway. What do ya'll think? I have heard that females are less allergic than males and lighter color fur is also less allergic. Again, what do ya'll think? I just want a furry friend in my life again! Thanks ya'll.

Yesterday I had to put my 17 y/o dog to sleep.I've had him since he was 2 and never thought it would be so hard losing him.He was suffering from very bad arthritis and yesterday he woke up and couldn't walk or lift his head. We decided it might be his time to go so we called our vet and he agreed to see us.We got to his office and asked him to look him over,to ensure we were doing the right thing. The vet took a few xrays and confirmed that there was no way he would ever be able to walk,or even move, pain free again. So we told him to go with the euthanasia. My wife kissed him on the head and said goodbye and left, but I couldn't let him go to sleep alone. I held him while the vet gave him the shot and it was so peaceful. Right before he passed he looked at me and kissed my face,as if saying goodbye, then he was gone.I'm a 35 year old man and I was crying like a baby, even today I am at work and teary eyed.Anyone else ever feel this way after losing their pet? I am having a hard time coping.

A Coyote is a Coyote. Period. A coydog is hybrid of a Coyote ( a cross between a domesticated dog and a coyote) that don't exist in the wild unless a breeder sends them into the wild. Am I right about this?

He sinks to the bottom of tank and stays there, he seems to have trouble swimming. One of my goldfish tends to ram into him. After a while we moved him into a smaller tank so the goldfish wouldn't nip him anymore. Instead of sinking he now floats on his side and doesn't swim at all. Is it swim bladder disease? Anyway to help him?

Banfield Vets diagnosed my cat with "kidney failure" during a routine blood exam for a dental cleaning. He seemed perfectly healthy and active before. They then said he would need more exams, all which would cost over $600. I'm currently trying to find a trustworthy vet in my area. But my family and I have noticed that my cat has started looking tired and sick AFTER the twelve hours that they held him to give him "blood tests" and a "urinalysis." This was 5 days ago and he's still acting tired and strange. He was also unusually clingy the day after and now startles easily, like when someone suddenly walks into the room, which he has NEVER done before. Since the diagnosis I've read numerous horror stories about Banfield and am wondering if they would actually DO SOMETHING INTENTIONALLY to sicken my pet and if anyone has ever experienced this with Banfield or another vet? And is it medically possible to ruin a cat's kidneys or health with an injection or some other way?

A lot of people on here advise taking a dog to obedience school. My dog does NOT have any serious behavior issues, and I have no desire to go to obedience classes. I'm just interested in teaching her to do some funny stuff like roll over, play dead, sit up and beg, etc. I got her from the pound. She is 3 years old. I started off by teaching her "sit," and we are now working on "down." But she really only listens if I have some treats out. Without the food, she won't necessarily do the trick. Also, she won't always come to me when I call her. She doesn't run away or anything like that, but when she's comfortable on the bed, she may or may not come when I call her. Any suggestions? How long should I spend training per session? How many sessions per day? Are cut up hot dogs a suitable treat? I'm afraid to give her too many because I don't want to upset her stomach and cause her to have an accident in the house. Thanks!

I'm not asking because I want to do this but I know people who have and I was just curious to know if it was a good idea. Me personally, I don't think it is because it just seems wrong to me. I mean people shouldn't do it so why is it okay with animals. Isn't there a higher chance of the puppies coming out with problems? Some people say no.

I have two cats, one is six the other four. The six year old started to urinate and poop downstairs by my dining room table around the middle of July. I went on vacation for for days and had a friend feed and clean the litter box while I was gone. The second day we were gone the cat started doing her business on the carpet. Now she does it almost every day. She has serious issues we think. What do I do? We also have a baby on the way and a lot new stuff coming into the house all the time.... Please help

Here's the situation: I'm moving in about a week. It's not far away or anything (only about 1/2 an hour away--same distance as her vet is currently), but it will be an unfamiliar place for her. We have 3 cats, the other two are neutered already. They will all be confined to the attached garage after the move for a bit (it's nice & clean, also the laundry area). I'll set up a nice bed for each of them, they should be comfy

but i'm wondering... if i get her spayed tomorrow will she be healed enough for the move? (she piddles when she goes into heat, so i'm trying to get it done before she goes into heat at the new place; she just got out of heat earlier this week & will again in a few wks)
is there anything else I should do to make her comfy when she gets home from the surgery?
how about right after the move?
should i seperate her from the other cats? they get along, but she's little & i'm afraid the others will want to play & she might get hurt :(
any other advice

I've had her for a year now and everytime she gets stressed, she gets an URI. I adopted another cat about a month and a half ago and she had an URI and gave it to the other one! They both took antibiotics and last week, they were both fine! The new cat is very hyper and never leaves the other one alone! She runs after her all the time and makes her get very nervous! Last night, she started sneezing again! She only sneezes about 3 or 4 times a day but I'm afraid it'll get worse! Is she getting sick because she is stressed with the new cat?? I don't know what to do! I want to keep the new cat but I don't want my other cat to always be sick because of her! I've tried the water bottle when she doesn't leave her alone but she still comes back, she wants to play but the other one gets stressed out! What am I going to do, I am really worried?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated???

My dog is about 10 yearsn old and originally came from the shelter. She is a black fuzzy chow. Recently she developed a baseball sized lumb underneath her left armpit. It bothers her some, but does not get in the way. My vet took a needle biopsy and said from that it is fat not cancer. But now when I ask my vet about removal or making my dog lump more comfortable for my dog; the vet now wants to do a larger biopsy. Is this normal? why not do this in the first place? Is this normal before removing it? Should it be removed? What are the risks? Should I be upset with my vet? How often should I have this tumor/lump checked?

I want the best for my pup, any advice would be helpful.

I know about the towel over the cage to make it think it is night time and it will sleep, but that doesn't always work. Any other tricks?
