A Coyote is a Coyote. Period. A coydog is hybrid of a Coyote ( a cross between a domesticated dog and a coyote) that don't exist in the wild unless a breeder sends them into the wild. Am I right about this?

Step father had a half coyote and half chow. The coyote was the mother and chow father. They watched to see when the coyote had the pups. The coyote kept coming to the egde of town where they lived. At 8 weeks they went to the den and took a pup. That is how Sheera came to be his dog.

Technically, a coydog is a cross between a dog and a coyote. This does not have to be bred by a breeder. Coyotes commonly mate with domestic dogs every spring where I live. Animal Control collects them when people call them. Stray dogs can also mate with coyotes, causing coydogs to live in the wild.

I've never actually heard of a coydog, but it's certainly possible for a coyote to breed with a domestic dog.

And yes, they wouldn't exist in the wild unless introduced there - OR if stray dogs met up with and chose to mate with, coyotes. It's unlikely to happen, but possible in theory. I would hope nobody would cross these two species on purpose, doesn't sound terribly responsible!!

Why, what have people been trying to tell you? :-)

I was given a little dog that was out of a litter of German Shepherds that was so much smaller than the other pups.

Some how or another a Coyote got to the female & one little cross was born. They gave her away so they could say that the German Shepherds were a pure litter.

She had a lot of wild instincts & was extreamly fearful of almost everything. Thunder, sirens, knock on the door, strangers, sudden noises & liked to hide out in the closet.

She was very sly & sneeky.

Her mama was kenneled but the Coyote got into her kennel with anyone knowing until the litter was welped.

She's been gone now for about 15 years. Died of renal failure.

Yep, you are right. The coyote is a relative to the dog, the only difference is that one is domesticated..... If they are cross-bred, AGAIN you come up with a MUTT! Not one thing against mutts or any dog for that matter, I just get upset when people cross-breed and "think" they created a new type of dog and put boo-koo bucks on them! You should have a dog to love it and take care of it, who cares what kind it is!!!

that is correct, a "coydog" is a mix of coyote and domestic dog, (and is considered unscrupulous to breed, they dont make good pets) any "wild" coydogs would eb the result of stray pets or people dumping...

Well sometimes it happens if someone has a coyote as a pet or wolf they will breed it with their dog that happens most of the time.

You are right. Domesticated dogs meet up with coyote's and produce offspring.
