yes i do agree with the first poster... gold fishes are quite "dirty" in the sense that they really do produce lots of wastes, thus increasing the ammonia levels of your tank... it may not only be the ammonia levels that can rise in that case.. therfore, the only thing that you can do is to check your parameters through a test kit which can be locally be bought in your nearest pet store. secondly, you must check the performance of your "cleaning machine" if it can accomodate and perform at its best in relation to the tank size.. also check for the appropriate temp of the water in the tank to get a well balanced aquaria..
with regards to the fishes that seem to be binging on the bottom of the tank, it is quite normal for the type of fish you have=)
enjoy and also an advise, do water changes frequently.. make it 50% per week. that will do... (depends on the tank size)

7 goldfish need at least a 75 gallon tank. It goes cloudy because the bioload is too high. Change a lot of water every week. Goldfish tanks need more maintenence than tropical tanks. Goldfish are heavy bodied fish that eat a lot and produce a lot of waste. They are also very active fish and that adds to the waste problem. Feed only once a day when bioload gets high. Every other day would be better.

Two things cause a cloudy tank
1) build up of bacteria
2) beginning to have algae issues
Based upon the fact that you have 7 goldfish it is probably bacteria build up. This kind of build up is normal in tanks that have yet to cycle. If you did/do complete water changes you have probably disrupted the cycle. You should only have to replace about 20% of the water in your tank each week.
To happily keep 7 goldfish you will need at least a 75 gal tank. Because of the bio load they require.
if your tank is cloudy because of algae--which may be a side effect of the 7 gold fish. It will slowly turn to a light green. The only real way to get rid of this issue is to put a blanket over the tank and feed your fish their normal amount once every three days until it clears up.

we've 2 tanks, a 20 gallon (containing 15 fish) & a 60 gallon (containing 13 fish). The fogginess grew to become right into a great difficulty for our tanks too. We tried water changes, new chemical compounds, etc. not something worked. finally we've been given some documents that helped from a worker at petsmart! He stated do not leave your mild on on your fish tank longer than 6 hours an afternoon. It worked for us! We from time to time leave the mild off for a whole day. wish this helps.

It sounds like maybe one of your chemical balances is off. There are differences in the water between the different kinds of fish. Goldfish excrete alot of ammonia and that may be the problem. Take a sample of the water to a petstore - they usually will check water for free and can tell you what to put in to clear up the tank.
As far as them eating at the bottom of the tank, goldfish are basically pretty carp. Carp are bottom feeders.

goldfish eat more and poop more than tropical fish. when you have goldfish you have to clean more often.
goldfish are eating machines. they don't have much else to do than eat. if you sat on the couch all day with a bag of oreos in front of you the oreos wouldn't last very long would they?

it sounds like to many fish in a too small tank
With 7 goldfish, you need a minimum of 70 gallons, since one of them needs at least 10 gallons by himself
if your tanks is too small, your bioload is too big, and that's why your tank gets cloudy
you also need to do partial waterchanges of 25% weekly, if your tank is small you need to do it twice a week

Hope that helps
Good luck

maybe your filter is not strong enough, or more water changes are needed. goldfish produce much more waste than regular tropical fish do, and they require much more space than regular tropical fish do!
