I have two cats, one is six the other four. The six year old started to urinate and poop downstairs by my dining room table around the middle of July. I went on vacation for for days and had a friend feed and clean the litter box while I was gone. The second day we were gone the cat started doing her business on the carpet. Now she does it almost every day. She has serious issues we think. What do I do? We also have a baby on the way and a lot new stuff coming into the house all the time.... Please help

Your cat just may be punishing you for going away and or it may be sensing your pregnancy. Cats are weird little creatures. If you make them mad, they can and will pay you back. Usually by doing something they know you don't like. I have an older cat that acts out now and then too. She has begun pulling on my drapes when she gets mad at me. She will make sure I am watching when she tries this. Your cat, if this is a payback knows you will find her business. If your cats have been using the same box together for a while, I tend to doubt that there is a territorial thing going on with the box.You will need to clean this area she has chosen to use, and try to get her scent out of it. Also, let her know that you know it was her that did it and that you are NOT pleased. Cats are smart, she will understand. If she is feeling anxious about the new baby you may need to pay more attention to her. I know these things sound crazy, but cats sense a lot of things we don't think they know about. When my daughter was leaving for college and packing up her things, this same cat I mentioned earlier got in one of the boxes she was going to pack stuff in and peed in it. Right in front of her. (the cat is her cat) We didn't even know that the cat knew what was going on, even tho she had been walking around meowing and looking for more attention than usual. So as I said, just clean the area and use something that will erase her scent. And give her some xtra hugs when she is good. Good luck

The only issue here is the 6 year old might need his own litter box. Some cats are picky and yes more mess and clean up but it should help with the problem you are having, i have been through 2 cats now that have done the same thing, annoying i know but, your cat could be having territorial problems as well. Depending on which of you the 6 year old is attached you you might be showing the 4 year old more affection and cats will pick up on that.

DO NOT MOVE THE BOXES OR CHANGE BRANDS!!!!! Cats are very choosy and there's a well hazard should you do this your different cats will give up utilizing the bins. You will have to have seven clutter bins is that what number of you've gotten? The rule of thumb is one field according to cat plus a spare. You might check out clutter field reinforcement coaching name your vet provide an explanation for the crisis and ask on how to try this. She is probably not utilizing the clutter field given that she feels insecure by means of the opposite cats and discovering her a dwelling in which she could be the only and handiest cat could be a well alternative. But name your vet first they arnt going to cost you for a mobilephone or recommendation. Ask the vet earlier than crating her this can result in despair and tedium and make matters worse.

Are you sure your friend was cleaning the litterbox every day? Maybe she stopped using the litterbox because it was not as clean as usual? Then once she started going on the carpet she continuted to return to that spot (which is totally normal for cats)?

Hard to say but you need to go get a good enzyme cleaner to get the smell out of the carpet or she will continue to go there.

Regular household cleaners will not get it clean.

Once you clean the spot (which may take a few tries) you need to put something over it or keep the cat away from the spot. She then may return to her litterbox.

Get her to the vet to check for a urinary tract infection. If she is fine in that aspect, give her a lot of attention, get rid of the carpet that smells like her urine now, and put her in the litterbox whenever you see her peeing elsewhere. Keep th elitterbox extra clean.
