Tomorrw i am going to buy myself my female teddy bear hamster (basically a long-haired syrian) In the future when she is older i hope to breed her but i'm guessing there young at the pet stores, and she needs to be 3-4 months to breed, but i want to know what to look for in a female hamster that could mean isckness? If i were to breed her i certainly wouldn't want her to have babies while she is sick, or, buy a hamster sick, because of course it could die.
I know a lot about hamsters but not a lot about hamster illnesses'. I know some symptoms of wet tail but what are most obvious sypmtons? Today i went to petco but they only had dwarfs, and they said they had teddy bear hamsters but they all got sick so now there in the back. o.0 i plan on keeping most of the babies, of course. Unless she has around 20 xD then i'll find some good homes via newspaper add so I can atleast give the buyers a paper with info on basic hamster care because i don't trust ALL the people who buy at petstores..

I went to change my hamster's bedding today. When I grabbed the cage, I saw the hamster was just laying there, all curled up. I touched him and he didn't move. We thought he was dead at first, but he then poked his head up. He wouldn't move at all. I'm not sure of his age. We've had him for 1 1/2 years, but I don't know how old he was when we got him. I think they average about 2 years. But last night, he was perfectly fine! He was running around in his little wheel! He has plenty of water and food. I don't think they hibernate. Is he sick or what?

I had her on Carefreash, then switched to Aspen. At the petstore, they also had her on Carefreash.

(petsmart, very clean, and made sure everything was okay to buy from a petstore. No local breeders :(

After switching beddings, i noticed that the sneezing did subside, but still has them here and there. I have heard of a diease in rats that starts with an "M", not sure if she has this, but should i wait longer, or treat it immidiantly. What is the treatment for it? Can you send me a picture of it via link. (perferably Petsmart.com. Live in U.S.A, please in links for the U.K)

I just got her 3 days ago, and right when i brought her home, set her immediantly in her cage for 24 1/2 hours, without me picking her up, or putting my hands in her cage. Today, I've started to put my hand in the cage, and everytime i do, she ducks her head and runs away!? Or, sometimes, she will hide in a toy and i'll stick my head in front of the toys opening and she'll stick her head out, and smell my hand, the duck back in...:( This morning, when she was in some toy blocks hiding, I picked them up and set it on my lap while i was sitting on my bed, she came out and seemed excited and happy. (she didn't want to go back in her cage! :D) I've done that twice today, and she is still afraid of my hand?! [even if i try to pet her back she ducks, and runs away...] What should I do?

She's 6 or 8 months old. (is that a baby?)

My only rat. (another female on the way soon)

First time rat owner.

i have since put her on proper food. She had horrible fleas when i got her and she has several open sores from them. The eggs are so thick on her hair that you can't even see the hairs! I can't seem to get rid of them, no matter what I do. i can't get the eggs off! She also has a large cyst on her side that keeps getting bigger but doesn't seem to bother her. does anyone have any suggestions on what to do about the flea eggs? i have treated her for all of the live fleas, but i just can't make a dent in the eggs.

I've got a 6 month old female rat and I need some things that will keep her warm during the cold weather.

This is her cage:

My ferret is very squirmy. For example, whenever i get her out of her cage, she moves alot in my hands and tries to get away, which equals scarred hands. If further information will help, then read on. She is a girl who never bites, she is kind of young, about 2, she used to have a little friend but she died and was old, and Gypsy is albino.

I really want a dog but my parents won't allow it, and we already have a cat. I would like to have a cuddly pet (I love to cuddle!) that is fun to play with. If possible, you could play games with it...I'd prefer it to be active in the morning on school days. (6-7 ish) and evenings (3-9) or just all day long. So I guess I mean a diurnal pet. Can't be a a ferret (illegal in california) , and probably not a Chinchilla. I'd like it to be happy to see me; I don't like indifference.

I want to buy two more female rats, but I don't know what to look for to make sure they are not sick. Obviously I am unaware, b/c all 4 of my rats just died. I am going to wait a little while to get two more, I'm just wondering what it is I should be looking for to make sure they are healthy... Thanks

This link tells me that chicken bones are okay for them to gnaw on. So, would the bones off of some Dominos hot wings be good for them (after removing the sauce and meat personally :x) to have?

It seems like the life of a hamster is so boring, just in it's cage. I want to get my famale hamster a friend, but everyone says that you can't get another female because they'll fight. I don't want to get a male because they'll repopulate. What do I do?
