Ok, I have two sweet little boy rats and they currently live in a 20 gal aquarium (bad I know, but I haven't found a cage I like yet!). Now I'm going away over Christmas to see my parents (who live about 13-14 hours away) and I'll be gone for about 4-6 days so I can't take them with me but I haven't got anyone who can come over and look after them either, so I guess my question is...What do I do with them?? Do I just leave a tonne of food in there,How long would be ok to leave them. Are there "Rat Boarders" kinda like dog/cat boarders lol.

p.s. please don't say just kill them or whatever, intelligent answers only please ta :)

After all it is not something they would find in the wild so they would have no instint for it. I find even when I put them in a new cage with new layout they take only a few moments to learn how to use the new equipment. Also can I put different varietys of hamster together in the same cage

I was thinking of getting a Guinea Pig as a pet. Do they make good pets? I have 3 cats but they seem good sized that maybe the cats won't bother them? I also have 2 parakeets. How easy is it to care for them? Are they messy? I had pet mice before and they were very messy lol

If so how do you go about potty training them?? Also can they be taught tricks? Also if I wanted to get two gerbils, but two different color variations, would it matter if they were not from the same litter even if they were introduced at the same time at a young age? Also do you get different color variations from one litter?
Thanks!!

I know that PetSmart only carries one gender at a time, due to the fact that rats tend to.....multiply if they find any way to get to the opposite gender, and the possibility of accidently selling apregnant rat.

It's a good Idea for them to do only sell one sex, however, I'm looking for a young male, so pregnancy isn't really an option XD

Thanks :)

I got a shock when i came home yesterday late at night. Mum says that the white guinea pig has been at the hidey house all day, so i took away the hidey house to look at both of them(white and brown). To my horror, it's head and part of it's body were stuck to the toilet roll! It walked a limped a little bit slowly after i took it out, and it's ears were read. Should i go to the vet?? What else should i do??

I have 2 female rats in a 29 gallon tank and getting a huge cage tomorrow for 112.99$ and would it be cheaper or nicer to make one? the one I might be getting has 2 floors and 2 ramps and is super high. And if you made one will you show me some pics of it or the web page you got that idea from so I may have instructions on it or will a store bought one be nicer?

My heater went out on Wensday and all we had were small heaters, we put the rat cage in a warmer room and gave them plenty of bedding a cloth to keep warm because it snowed heavy that night. They both seem to be very tired and less active, one has been sneazing a bit but not bad but a few sneazes here and there and there eyes looked drained. They still go nuts when I give them food and when I take them out of the cage do you think they might have a lil cold and if they do what should I do?

I'm thinking of a dorm room pet, other people at my school have cats, lizards and I think I've even seen a dog in campus housing before.

Now which would be the best to have, I currently have a pet scorpion in a 5 and half gallon tank, could I keep one of them in it?

Which do you think is the best to have?

Just curious. They are a little different but ultimately look pretty much the same. I think they are the same species of rat. What would the pups be like wild or tame? And how do you know if the rat is in heat or has gotten pregnant?

Turns out that rats have the ability to reflect on their own thought processes, an ability that has only been attributed to humans and some primates.

So, rats can and DO think, they know what they do and don't know! They process their thoughts and learn from them!!

This marks true intelligence. Rats aren't like dogs in that they know what is what because of a reward, they know it because they THINK about it.

Rats, the true equal to man!!

Check it out:

Now, there should be no excuses against rats! They are truly intelligent creatures!

Hello, I own rats right now and we were thinking of getting some mice as well. Are mice like rats in that you should always have them in pairs because they are social?
