I'm thinking of a dorm room pet, other people at my school have cats, lizards and I think I've even seen a dog in campus housing before.
Now which would be the best to have, I currently have a pet scorpion in a 5 and half gallon tank, could I keep one of them in it?
Which do you think is the best to have?

People, rats weren't even an option. Hamsters and gerbils are much too big for a 5 gallon tank. A dwarf hamster would be OK. No more than 2 mice in that tank.

get a hamster because they dont look as ugly as rats or gebils. no offence to anyone, but if u want a pet as a 'show of what i have' kind of thing u should get a hamster. and they will not bother you when you are doing homework during the day because they are nocturnal. they barly need matenence at all. and they are super cute! and no u cannot keep it in a tank with ur pet scorpion, even tho i think ur super col for havin a pet scorpion!

I'd get a rat. Some rats have actually been known to form a bond with their owners. They're cooler than hamsters too. (Picking up hamsters freaks me out. They're so soft I'm afriad I'll squish them.) And rats are longer lived than Hamsters. Most rats live about 2 years. Hamsters live about a year and I'm not sure about gerbils.
But you couldn't keep a rat in a 5 gallon tank unless it was going to be out of it's cage a lot. ...I'd get one of those real cool rat cages. (I think they're about $50 +))

forget all of those get a guinea pig, they are more, as u would say, pet like. they are the best and friendly, but you would need to buy a bigger cage. and if a guinea pig is out of the question, get a hamster, becaus ehtey are cuter and friendlier. but rats are pretty amazing just dont get a gerbil!

All of them would adapt well,but the hamster is the best. Before you choose you should ask the petstore if you could touch a couple of each kind.

I have 2 pet mice and they are a little tough to handle but they are worth it in the end. You can teach them lots of tricks and they also very affectionate. Go mice!

Pet rats definatly. Both mice and grebils are stupid. But rats, beleive it or not, are the SMARTEST rodent thats ever lived.,... get a RAT. I have three rats right now. I have always loved rats though most people think they are stinky and smelly. Its not their fault! Pet rats dont carry deisise its the wild rats that do! And they get it from the stupid blood-sucking mosquitoes! GET A RAT! IM TELLING YOU GET A RAT!

i would say a rat or a hamster...
rats are smart.
hamsters are cute. ...not that rats arent cute!!
i think you should get a rat. they are social, smart, and friendly. but thats just my opinion
