Are you sure that they're fighting? Many rats, especially young ones, enjoy wrestling in play-- they might even wrestle with your hand, which is sooo cute.
Also, it's not uncommon for some minor fighting to happen while they're deciding who the 'top rat' is & if no-one's bleeding or acting scared it's not usually a problem. Watch them for awhile when they're in the big cage & you should get an idea of how serious this is-- while you're watching, don't be really close to them so they can kind of ignore you & do their own thing.
You might also try re-arranging the things inside the big cage, especially if 1 rat in particular claims the cage as personal territory.

If they are males and you have introduced them to each other too quickly it might be a territorial thing. The hallway is neutral territory so they get on fine. Get another cage and put the one that fights the most in it next to the other cage but not close enough so that they can reach each other. Eventually introduce each other to each other more. Or clean out the big cage properly so it smells neutral and put them all in and see what happens. At age 3-12 months they are teenagers and are making a pecking order. My sister female rats have to sleep in the kitchen because they keep me awake with their squabbling!

You can probably get cage separators, I see them a lot at pet stores. It will probably keep them safe since there will only probably be some holes that they cant fit through and "fight." Otherwise, I would go to a pet store and see what they can do about the cage.

They won't fight really badly. They will squabble and argue like everybody does, but they will sleep together and be friends, so don't worry.

no!
there is no need to seperate them!
they are play fighting, like dogs!
they should only be seperated if they are drawing large amounts of blood from each other
=D
