My baby cousin got bit by her when I first got her and nothing happened to him
I was just wandering if hamsters get anything like rabies that can affect humans? If so, how do they get it cuz im scared to get bitten by my hamster. >.<

Sometimes I get so very scared that Im going to do something wrong and my hamster is going to die.... I dont know I have never had a hamster before but I always do what I am supposed to. Cleaning his cage, feeding him, etc.
Well does anyone else do this or am I just plain crazy? LOL. I have had him for about a month, his name is Tweak because hes so twitchy and also after Tweak from South Park.

im trying to find ways to help keep my guinea pigs warmer, would putting a heating pad underneath the corrugated plastic even work, i wouldnt put the heat so high that it would melt the plastic
also if that wont work can i use one of those heated rock things that you put in reptile cages, and just put it in their cage so they have a warm spot to sleep by
if neither of these ideas work can you suggest something else?

please dont say turn up the heat, i have a thermometer in my room and it says that it is 20 degrees Celcius(i think that is 70 degrees farenheit) but it still feels sort of cold

my guinea pigs are 9 week old abbyssians if that helps at all

Ok. I know this osunds cruel, but I really want a rabbit, with a lifespan of only lik 5-6 years. This is because I am going to be 12 when I get it, and don't want to have it when I go to college at like 18-19. I was looking at dwarfs, but then I heard that they live the longest, like 9-15 (!!!) years!I don't want to have a rabbit until I am 27, but I think rabbits are really cute and fun pets. I know how to care for animals well, as I have had 5 guinea pigs, 2 hampsters, 5+ gerbils (I had two that had MANY babies, and then I kept two of the babies), 2 birds, fish, frogs, a snail and 2 dogs. What breed lives the shortest? I heard that giving vitamins and such make them live longer, but I don't want to treat them porrly to live shorter.

Around where I live there was a massive rat rescue and now they all need homes. I would love to help, but I am wary because my cat loves to kill the mice we have living around the house? Is there anyway to "break" her of this habbit or at least discourage this? I have always wanted a rat, but like I said before I never though it would work out. Any suggestions?

i have to female rats and the wheel is very large and takes up lots of space and only one rat uses it would it be ok to take it out?

I bought 2 sister gerbils last week. Then we added a male gerbil from a different pet store about 2 days later. At first one of the females was very aggressive towards the male. She eventually just kept to herself in the "top bunk" of the cage. She seemed depressed. I closed off the top bunk and now all three are snuggling together under the wooden house. No more fighting or anything aggressive. They have a wheel, a wooden house, plenty of food, water, & bedding. The cage is 15 inches long, 12 inches high, and 10 inches wide. Do you think that's enough space for 3 gerbils or do I need a bigger cage?

My friend recently got some (what I think are) gerbils for his birthday. After realising that he wasn't feeding them or giving them water I offered to take them off his hands. I have put some bedding, hamster food and water in shallow bowls and a little play toy for them but I don't know much about how to look after them. Do you have any tips?

My 2 year old Roborovski hamster is running in circles like she is retarded and I am worried because she is having trouble getting to her food and water because she can't go in a straight line. What is the most likely cause and the best course of action?
Many thanks in advance.

This morning I awoke to find the ankle on my male rat's left back leg horribly swollen. He won't walk on it, though he only seems bothered by it when it is straight. I'm very worried, and not sure what to do. There are no bones protruding anywhere; the swelling is very consistent the whole was around his ankle.

If there is anything a vet could do(other than just tell me that he sprained it) I have no problems taking him. But he is still young(around 11 weeks, I believe) so I don't know what all could be done for him.

Does any one have advice on ways to help him myself, or should I just go ahead and take him? About what would the cost be of having him checked out?

Any help at all would be really appreciated, I'm very worried about my little boy...

Any hits on how to get the little booger to come out of hiding?

2007-11-17 16:33:22 · 14 answers · asked by sajaru316 2

My friend gave me her dwarf hamster cause she didn't want him anymore. She had him for like 6 months and would never pet him or pick him up and now he's just really mean. I've had him for about 5 months. I've tried petting him also tried using treats to get him to trust me and nothing will work. If you put your hand on the cage he'll run up and try to bite you. I just give up.

So my question is what can I do with him?? Nobody will take him cause he's too mean and I don't really want to just let him go outside but I might have too. Will a pet shop take him?
