Guinea pigs are indoor creatures, they need to be indoors away from drafts and such or they will catch cold.

It is ok to bathe your guinea pig, how ever it's not ok to do it frequently. You'll end up causing their skin to dry out from loss of natural oils, and they'll be itchy and flaky.

Use a mild shampoo or soap, and use it sparingly. Do not get soap in the guinea pigs face or ears. Make sure you monitor the temperature of the water with your hands it should be nice and warm but not hot. Be sure you rinse them thoroughly and remove all soap.

If I need to wash mine, I usually do it in the sink. She likes to try to climb out so I just let her stand with with her front feet on the top rim of the sink. Becareful that your lil piggy doesn't do a mad jump out of the sink and fall off the counter.

They are fat stocky little creatures, but they are very agile and capable movers!

After bathing you'll need to towel dry your piggy as much as possible. It's important during the bathing process they don't get chilled so don't bother bathing if you keep your house cold. After towel drying it's ok to use the hair dryer but do so very carefully... have your hand shielding the piggy from the majority of the heat and let the rest of the heat go between your fingers. Don't concentrate the dryer on one spot, keep it moving around, and a good arms length away.

Do not blow the dryer in the piggies face or ears, you wouldn't like it so don't do it to them.

Piggies generally are not smelly creatures as long as you keep their cage clean. Pick through it and remove moist shavings daily I thoroughly clean mine removing all the bedding once a week. (Do not use Cedar bedding)

Sorry I got a bit long winded. Hope this helps! Read the site below for more information.

Your guinea pig will be safer, warmer & happier if you bring him indoors. If it's too cold for you out there, you can be sure that your piggie is cold too. They're social animals & he's probably so lonely outside.
You can bathe him is necessary, but I certainly wouldn't do this unless he's inside where it's warm enough. I occasionally give our pig a semi-shower in the kitchen sink-- I make absolutely certain that the water is the right temp. & hold him securely with 1 hand. However, our little guy has never been really dirty except for right when we adopted him & he just needs an occasional wash-- he enjoys this in warm weather. There are also cleaning wipes made for small animals @ many pet shops or you can use baby wipes.
Regular cage-cleaning & the use of a good bedding (not cedar or pine) will keep odor way down.

I have heard of people that bathe their pigs but don't think this is needed as pigs clean themselves. If you need to give them a rub down with a damp cloth. Make sure when you clean out their hutch twice a week disenfect the would as this can house loads of smelly bacteria. Also it is best to bring pigs indoors over winter or at least in a shed. If neither is possible you can now buy hutch covers which stop draughts, wind and rain from getting in the hutch and if wood gets wet it can
1/ stay damp for weeks
2/ start to smell (maybe causing pigs to smell?)
Also ensure gp as plenty bedding at all times.

You can give your guinnea pig a bath, just don't fill up the sink/tub too much b/c they can't swim. Also, guinnea pigs can get sick. They are not meant to be outdoors, the cold weather will kill them....they need to be inside or in an insulated/warm outside building.

Yes you should put him indoors! Piggies that get a chill can die =( The best way to get your piggies clean is to make sure you change his shavings and keep his cage clean. He will take care of cleaning himself and staying fresh smelling if he has a clean environment.

It really isn't safe to give a piggie a bath. There is Way more risk in bathing your piggie than its worth. They DO NOT know how to swim.

Good Luck!

i had one and i kept it indoors, yes they get cold they are mammals and dont have fur but have only hair. guinea pigs come from warm climates mostly in south america so they are not used to being cold. about the bathing thing, make sure you clean the home (i kept mine in an aquarium) clean and then your pet wont stink. dont let feces and urine pile up on the woodchips or else the animal will stink. buy a animal perfume spray and brush the hair. i am not sure about bathing it b/c i am sure it will hate it and you will get scratched, a lot.

they can swim but not very deep, its better to have it just full enough for them to walk on
you should definetly bring them indoors cuz once they get a cold, your pretty much screwed unless you have enough money to go the vet. And if it smells that bad, you should give it a bath RIGHT AWAY!!! it could damage it

My sister had a guinea pig.
You can give it a bath just don't fill up the tub or sink too much.
Of course it gets cold, its an animal. And yeah you should bring it in the house, it could die or get really really sick.

Guinea pigs hate baths. Go to a pet store and buy small animal wipes to clean and refresh him, also clean his cage more often so he doesn't smell. You need to bring him in where it is dry and warm-now.
