My rat gave birth today to 12 kittens, everything seems to going fine but she gave birth on the cages plastic floor and will not move them off it onto material or anything. Is this a problem will the babies be ok? not get too cold?

Everything will be o.k. Let nature take it's course. Animals rely on instincts. If it's too cold, she will move them. Offer a little extra bedding for her. Also make sure to offer a little extra protein in her diet, she will need the extra energy. Remember to sex and seperate after weaning.....Good luck

If you can put shredded paper in her cage, away from the babies, she will probably gather it herself and make a nest around the babies, that's what mine used to do, very rarely did my girls used to use their nest box. Just make sure her cage is in a warm draught free area.

Give her a box big enough for everyone, and some bedding. Hopefully she will move everyone inside.
